Interstate 95 Delaware - North


A sign change was made in 2006 after two separate incidents in 2005 where trucks exceeding the height restriction at the 10th Street overpass struck the span. Added signs at the I-495 split advised truckers of the 14 foot clearance. 12/23/06

One quarter mile ahead of the split with I-495. These overheads were installed during March 2000 to coincide with the major reconstruction of I-95 north of Wilmington. 03/27/04

The roadway was restriped in 2000 with three overall lanes for Interstate 495 northbound. Lighting fixtures and brackets remained from the previous set of signs until a new sign bridge replaced this assembly by 2008. 05/21/07

I-495 separates from I-95/U.S. 202 north. Four exits along I-495 serve the east side of Wilmington. 10/12/04

SR 4 is the first of two interchanges to serve the central business district of Wilmington. All signs along I-95/U.S. 202 north through to Exit 6 were replaced in 2006. 04/10/04

A monotube assembly with an interchange sequence sign replaced the first sign for SR 4 on I-95 north in 2017. 09/27/14

A replacement made of this interchange sequence sign north of I-495 dropped SR 4/48 for MLK Boulevard. 12/22/20

Continuing toward the Corporate Capital of the World, Interstate 95 reaches Exit 6 with SR 4 (Maryland Avenue) to SR 48 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard) east in 1.25 miles. 12/21/05

This 0.75-mile sign for SR 4 (Exit 6) was installed in 2000. It was replaced in 2006, with the exit tab shifted to the right. 04/10/04

Interests to Wilmington Station, an Amtrak and SEPTA (Southeast Pennsylvania Transit Authority) stop, are directed onto Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard east to Market Street (U.S. 13 Business south). 12/20/16

The freeway elevates on viaduct by Daniel S. Frawley Stadium a half mile ahead of Exit 6. This overhead was replaced by 2006, with the light fixtures removed. 03/22/04

Carbon copying of original signs in 2000 retained Fourth Street from the 1960s-overheads along I-95 through Wilmington. 2006 sign replacements again included Fourth Street (SR 9). 03/22/04

Intersecting SR 9 in six blocks, Adams Street stems north from the off-ramp at Exit 6 to parallel I-95 northward to Lovering Avenue. SR 9, a 58-mile route leading south to New Castle and Dover, originates in the Little Italy section of Wilmington. 12/20/16
