Interstate 95 Miami to Fort Lauderdale - North

The Downtown Miami skyline as it appeared in 2006. A number of trees were added between the two carriageways by 2011, shrouding the southbound lanes from the fledgling northbound freeway. 03/26/06

A former ground level sign preceded Exit 1B for U.S. 41 (SW 8th Street) by one mile. This was originally signed as Exit 2, with Exit 1 assigned for the southbound half diamond interchange with Rickenbacker Causeway. 12/28/03

Interstate 95 curves northward over a Miami Metro line and SW 1st Avenue to circumvent Downtown Miami. 12/28/03

An older style sign for U.S. 41 also was posted at ground level ahead of Exit 1B onto SW 3rd Avenue north at SW 8th and 7th Streets. U.S. 41 ended historically on Miami Beach to the east. Westward the route heads toward the Everglades and Naples, then north along the Gulf Coast en route to Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tampa, Ocala, and Gainesville. 12/28/03

These guide signs were still in use in 2014, but the exit tab for the forthcoming Downtown Distributor (Exit 2A) was removed by Hurricane Wilma in October 2005 and never replaced. The signs were also covered in graffiti by March 2006, and cleaned by May 2006. 12/28/03

Arenas was shortened to Arena on a sign update for Exit 2B from I-95 north. This reflected the July 2008 closing (and later demolition) of Miami Arena, former home of the NBA Miami Heat and NHL Florida Panthers. 05/07/06

Five lanes of Interstate 95 north approach the Midtown Interchange with both I-395 east and the Dolphin Expressway west. Signs here were replaced after 2007. The Exit 2D sign was replaced again to reference the August 2014-opened Port Miami Tunnel. 05/07/06

Interstate 395 totals just 1.29 miles from the Midtown Interchange east to Mac Arthur Causeway (SR A1A) across Biscayne Bay. 05/07/06

Northbound Interstate 95 reached the transition ramp to Interstate 395 east at Exit 2D. The right lane defaulted onto I-395, while the three main lanes continue north and the left lane prepares to transition to Florida 836 westbound. 05/07/06

Guide signs for SR 836 were replaced to show the tolled status of the Dolphin Expressway westbound. 04/01/14

Shields for Interstates 95 and 195 faded to blank from 2003 to 2006 at the Midtown Interchange. Forthcoming Exit 4A departs initially as a bypass ramp before rejoining the mainline ahead of the 36th Street Interchange. 03/25/06
