Do Mallo Cups still exist? I loved those, but I haven't seen them in years.

abefroman329

Yes, I've seen them for sale at Cracker Barrel.

Totino's Stuffed Nachos (a triangular version of pizza rolls).  I think they may have been re-introduced about five years ago but I haven't seen them in any metro Detroit supermarkets.

MATraveler128

Going off the stuffed nachos, there used to be an item called Doritos Loaded. It was a cheese filled Dorito shaped item that was deep fried in the famous dust. They had typical Dorito flavors such as your standard Nacho Cheese, Cool Ranch, and Jalapeño Cheese.

I think they're more seasonal than the chips. I've seen them be sold at Missoula Fresh Market (where I work) before. So, they're not discontinued per se, more like not produced regularly as the chips. They make a certain batch and once that batch runs out, it's pretty much a done deal for a while until they do decide to create a new batch of the Doritos Loaded snacks.
Finally upgraded to Expressway after, what, seven or so years on this forum? Took a dadgum while, but, I made it!

There were these cheese puffs you could find in one of our natural foods stores. They were the best cheese puffs ever. The cheese coating was so thick it was almost creamy, and the puffs had just the right amount of firmness. The company that made them apparently quietly went out of business, but little information exists about them or what happened to them.

Thanks that's actually better as it's random, rather than trying and failing to use British English.

Jolly Joe's.  They were the grape version of Mike & Ike's or Hot Tamales.

Eating one right now that I bought today. Face!

Doritos 3D, shaped like Bugles.

They brought those back (just saw them this week) BUT they don't make the original nacho flavor. Rather they make Chili Cheese Nacho which isn't the same. It's spicier and IMO harder to eat so you only end up eating 3-4 at a time before you have to take a break from the flavor building up in your mouth. They are also more expensive than regular Doritios which wasn't the case in the old days if I remember right.

Not a snack, but do you remember the EZ Squirt Ketchup Heinz made in the early 2000's? They had your traditional red color, but you could also get green, purple, and blue. In other words, you could have your fries covered in this blue goop that looked like it was straight out of a Nickelodeon show.

Doo Dads

My dad called them "floor sweepin's" because it appeared they took whatever fell on the floor from packaging other snacks and combined those items in a box.

I always preferred Doo Dads to Chex Mix. I basically hate any of those snack mixes that have rye bread chips in them. I always end up picking them out.

My maternal grandmother always bought Doo Dads.  I never really liked them at the time and had always preferred Chex Mix.  But they all pale in comparison to Utz Pub Mix, which is now my favorite.

Funny, I was just eating a bag of Chex Mix, where the rye chips are my favorite ingredient.

Mallo Cups still exist. They sit right next to the Necco wafers at a farm store I frequent.

I think the rye chips are disappointing on their own, but balance out the palate with the rest, for some reason. Must be some sort of sodium neutralizer.

Takumi

When I buy Chex Mix, I always buy the cheddar kind, because it doesn't have rye chips.

I've never had Doo Dads and had guess I had pictured they looked something like Milk Duds. That's not even close.

not a specific snack, but there seems to be this trend towards 'mini' everything. like, sliders are a great way to sell more bread, less meat, for more money. screw that. i want a 3/4 pound 'oh my god you can't eat the whole thing' burger.

'fun size' candy -- the work to reward ratio is way off.

Space Food Sticks. They actually weren't very good and the chocolate flavor looked like grainy poop shoved through a food extractor. But when you're a wannabe kid astronaut in the 60s, they're awesome.
