Highway numbers are not shown in Google Maps now?  I looked at Rainier, Oregon, and no route numbers show up even for I-5, I zoom in and I zoom out and still no route numbers.  Clicking directly on I-5 makes its number come up in a popup but lesser highways do not.  I looked at the roads around Seattle and the same thing happens.  None of the highways show up labeled, major interstates can be clicked on to show the number in a popup box but never labelled in the main map.

Hmm.  The map layer loads with the highway number labels for about one second, and then the highway numbers are wiped off at the same time the layer of random businesses is displayed.  I don't select any layers but the map and I don't see how to get the highway numbers back.

Rothman

Nah, the route numbers showing up has been only in the closest zoom levels for a while now.  They're there, but the s$%^tificafion of Google Maps is more evident than ever.

Thanks, but no.  I zoom in all the way to the 10 foot level and (after the first second) there are no route numbers.  On city streets the name of the street shows up, but numbers of state routes never do.

Safari here. No problems when logged in. If I use private browsing, 3-digit state routes are mis-centered so that only the first two digits are centered and the third digit goes partially off the oval, but 2-digit routes and all Interstate and US routes (even 3-digit) are fine.

No issues for me; route shields show up at zoom level 7 and closer.  Not sure what you mean by "clicking" interstates.  They're not clickable for me like businesses and places are, just the standard window with the locality, lat/long, nearby street view, etc.

I feel like if this happened to me, I'd close the browser window and try again in a new incognito session to see if it went away.

Sick of getting thrown off of bridges while using Street View.

It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

I have found the "continue" button to have stopped functioning on multi-stop trips on the Android version.

Quote from: freebrickproductions on June 07, 2024, 09:31:32 PMPer Google Maps, apparently US 78 now follows a UP line through West Memphis, AR.
Sounded so ridiculous I had to check. Google Maps also shows US 78 taking I-55 south of Memphis and I-555 north to Jonesboro if you search it up, as well as the UP line and fragmented segments in Blytheville and Jonesboro. Go Google Maps! :pan:

And now, I have finally had the web browser/desktop version of Google Timeline yanked from me.  This stinks, since I more often wonder about when I was at a particular place rather than where I was on a particular day.

Wonder if there's another location tracking tool out there...of course, the chances of it being compatible with .kml is about zilch.

KML is an open enough format that there's probably a way to convert from it to whatever format the other tool uses (which would probably be GeoJSON or one of the ESRI shapefile formats).

A decent number of the road maps on Wikipedia used KML as the underlying technology. When we moved to AARoads, we changed over to GeoJSON since that plays nicer with OpenStreetMap.

It's not Google Maps, but the Open Street Map, but there is a whole bunch of nonexistent streets in the Manatee River near Bradenton, Florida:

That's a vandal, and it's a known issue. It's probably already been reverted, but renderings take longer to update.

I shall be the first ever road-geek to clinch the route known as "PUTIN [words that will probably be too political for the forum]" (the dead end one, bottom middle).

Some jackass who's mad about getting banned, apparently. Ain't those fun?

I found out that apparently, if you do a hard refresh in the browser (Ctrl+Shift+R in Firefox), it will usually force the site to cough up new tiles that don't have the vandalism on them.

So anyone can just make up a fake road and publish it? What if somebody dies trying to take one of these fake roads?
