Since the United States will be celebrating the Independence Day holiday, the question becomes... are you planning to stay home, stay local, or escape out of town?

Ah, the open skies, wind at my back, warm sun on my... wait, where the hell am I?!
As a matter of fact, I do own the road.

Let's see...much of the western US is expected to flirt with all-time records. Being as I doubt I'll be able to find any reasonably-priced lodging on the coast, I expect to stay home and inside while blasting my air conditioning.

I'll probably just go drive a bunch of dirt roads in rural Madera County.  I have no interest in going anywhere name brand.

Pretty much staying in my home area of NE Wisconsin.

Staying home. We went to Florida for a week earlier this month and have a four-day weekend trip at the end of July for our anniversary, so we decided not to go anywhere even though I have both Thursday and Friday off. July 8 is the fifth anniversary of my father's death, so I may go to Arlington Cemetery over the weekend to visit his columbarium niche if the weather permits.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"

Lake Tahoe is beautiful and a great place to live year-round...but honestly it's something of a hellhole over the Fourth of July period.  Way way too crowded, and too many of those people are celebrating their American Freedom to be inconsiderate drunken jerks.  I always tell people, come here any other time and enjoy yourself, but the Fourth is many times worse than any other weekend or holiday so stay away then.

So I'm escaping Tahoe, by airplane, for several days in the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa, where I will enjoy four days of the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic.  As long as the weather is OK while I'm there I don't believe the Mississippi River flooding will directly affect me or the golf, although I know parts of the riverfront will be closed and they have already cancelled their main fireworks show at the riverfront because of the high water.

I know the Tahoe jerks will leave trash all over the place; just please don't set it on fire.

Staying home.  Mrs. wanderer and I did a weeklong OH-IN-IL-WI-MN-WI-MI roadtrip end of last month and the credit card bill just came in.

Staying home, for sure. I need to save up my energy for the annual road trips back to Chicago later on.
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

Out now.  Home for the 4th.  Best fireworks display in the country is my city lit up by Pennsylvania's finest.

My mom has family over on the 4th. I take the kids and my wife stays home with the dog because we can't leave the dog alone during fireworks season.

There's a vet with severe PTSD on our block. They had to turn a dingy storage room in their basement into a room that he pretty much lives in for a month to avoid the fireworks noise.

I'm most likely staying in my home county for at least the 5th consecutive year, and will most likely go to the event they're holding here.

I have a hotel booked in Grand Marais, MN from the 5th-7th, but I'm hedging now on going due to recent car issues. I can't wait a lot longer to cancel which I obviously don't want to have to,

Absolute truth.

Currently working in Chicagoland now, but flying home to Lexington Co., SC on the evening of the 3rd.  On the 4th I'll likely make a run to the nearest fireworks stand and buy just enough to keep the girls entertained (it's all legal in my state, county, and town, though we must stop by midnight).  Then the next day, we leave for a national dance competition for the girls in North Charleston that lasts five days.

I'll be at home, as I always am around the 4th.  Being a teacher has some perks.

epzik8

Unlike last year, I'll be at work, so that amounts to staying home.

My apartment complex parking lot has an excellent view of the Strip, so I might go out there and watch the casinos shoot off fireworks.

Then again, it's supposed to be 114°, so I might just stay inside...

I work on Friday, so I'm probably not going anywhere on the 4th proper or over the weekend, unless I decide to get out Saturday.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Taking the whole family to visit my parents in St. Augustine. Flying out tomorrow. It's my dad's 80th on Wednesday.

GaryV

Staying home/local for the week of the 4th.

But I'll be traveling the next two weekends - first to Indy then Toronto.

July 1st weekend:

I ended up spending this long weekend at home (my parent's house), which was nice and relaxing. Weather was great today, we ate lunch on the back deck.

Last weekend I had my 4-night trip to South Florida, which involved sharing a double-bed with my brother, so I didn't sleep well. June in general was a bit hectic sorting out the mortgage for my new home (a townhouse 15 minutes from my parent's place). We take possession tomorrow, so July will also be busy with painting and new flooring, moving, etc, but I'm also excited to finally move out.
