It was storming at the hotel where we stayed. Lights flickered and was very windy. Came through in a matter in 5 minutes.

My storm just came suddenly, it went from cloudy to pouring almost instantly, then came the lightning/thunder and then it went right back to cloudy and it poured on and off a couple of times.

I edited my post a couple minutes after publishing it since I heard thunder.

On the opposite side of things, I saw a tweet today that Lamar, CO went from 77 -> 95 in 50 minutes at 2:00 AM last night.

Road Hog

Big cooldown for us by Thursday as we get a front in here. Highs will barely get out of the 80s throughout the remainder of the 10-day forecast. Looks like a Pacific disturbance will cross over Mexico and give us a good chance of rain starting Sunday.

Road Hog

The record low for July 19 (Friday) is 68º in DFW, which marks the 10-year anniversary of the glorious "polar vortex" of 2014. By the way, 68º is the warmest record low on the books for all 365 days in DFW.

Right now Friday's forecast is 70º, so that's the closest we'll get to breaking the record. The records for the following days are well into the lower 60s (and a 59º on 7/23/1970). But this week is gonna be freaking nice. Just one more triple-digit day to go.

Scott5114

The 120-ish temps in the first part of the month broke me to the point I look at this and go "Oh, good, it's gonna be cool this week." Looks like there's a chance of afternoon thunderstorms all week too, which provides some relief.

(I'm not sure if the forecast for Palm Springs is accurate. For some reason Taiganet is having problems pulling correct data for Palm Springs lately.)

We have been enjoying these unseasonably cool conditions for most of this month.  Highs are several degrees below average.  In fact yesterdays high of 92 degrees in Corpus Christi Int'l Airport matched that of February 27 of this year, which also happened to be 92 degrees.

                                    ACTUAL                              AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:      96 high; 82 low                  98 high; 81 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:  94 high; 83 low                  97 high; 82 low
LAREDO:                99 high; 78 low                105 high; 79 low
MCALLEN:              98 high; 80 low                102 high; 80 low

Winds are also unusually light at around 10-15 MPH.  And with the dew points kept in check (70-76 degrees), heat index might reach 110 degrees in a few places, but the vast majority of South Texas won't even get that high.

We rarely ever get heat waves here in South Texas (summer temperatures are so consistent throughout our historical climate), but after last summer's heat wave, I supposed nature owed us one this summer.

Nighttime Heat Index:  85-95 degrees
Daytime Heat Index: 105-110 degrees
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

It's a lovely 26C (78F) and sunny right now. But the morning from roughly 8-11:30am had periods of very heavy rain. One intersection in Cambridge I drove by was half flooded and had a stalled car that needed to be towed. This article from yesterday says it could be up to 100mm (4") of rain. I'm curious what the total will end up being.

EDIT: The total ended up being 65.7mm (about 2.5")

We've had those storms passing through over the last several hours. Hopefully sunshine will follow here too!

Not sure how accurate the reading is on my Subaru Levorg, but at one point it indicated 41 C (105 F) in Chikushino, Fukuoka, Japan over the weekend. I suspect it maybe crested 38 in reality (around 100 F), but still outrageously hot when you consider how high the dew point was as well ... even Americans stationed here from the south say that Japan is more humid than anywhere in the US, and they're correct. So just imagine 100-ish and humid...it's miserable.

I don't have to imagine it—that's just summer in Oklahoma. :spin:

Meanwhile, here in Las Vegas, we're currently sitting at 90° at sunrise, and the forecast calls for it to only get up to 107 today.
