The new Goethals Bridge should have included direct ramps even if it was EZPass only and cash using existing interchange.

Bearing in mind the Turnpike Authority's policy of maintaining access from both the inner and outer carriageways, where would you have put these additional ramps, given that you've referring to maintaining the existing interchange? That's a pretty tight space to try to cram in more ramps, and I wonder what sort of gradient flyovers would have required.

NB to EB would be no problem just spurring off the current ramps. WB to NB could tie in easier being the NB on ramps merge north of the crossing.

Yes other movements would be challenging, but doable.

Keep in mind the current set up was done anticipating the NJ 81 freeway that was to connect here instead of at 13A.

The 13 ramp to I-278 west can be reconfigured easily to avoid that nasty 180 degree turn as that is the only real problem to that set up.

NJTA has already started replacing some of the signs put in for the Exit 6-9 widening. Exit 6 now has some MUTCD style signs northbound.

Guess they really didn't like the looks of that patched over arrow. The rest of the signs have heavily faded I-276 shields, so they likely aren't too far behind.

Am I missing something? Looks like NJTA forgot to put an arrow or a distance message on those signs.

No you're not. They left that out.  Probably an oversight, but then again historically the turnpike has done that at exits as one half mile before a ramp you would see signs like a" NJ 168- Camden- Woodbury" or " US 206 -Bordentown- Trenton " and " NJ 33- Hightstown+ Trenton" all without a distance note or a a " Right Lane" or something.

Those signs are now 15 years old. Still a bit early for typical NJTA replacements, but those signs are aging right along.

It's probably a bit worse than that.  The widening project started in 2009 with rolling contracts that were completed in 2011-2014, so those signs are likely 10 - 13 years old.

The widening project finished in 2009. All original signs from 6 to 8A are now at least 15 years old.

No it didn't.  The Central NJ meet happened in 2011 and viewing the construction was one of the main parts of the meet.

Time's getting away from you. Here's the project's website, still available on the web. http://www.njturnpikewidening.com/ .  Click on the 'Construction Updates' link to see when each contract started and finished.  The contracts started being awarded around the summer of 2009.  Several of the contracts weren't fully completed due to punchlist items until 2015 or 2016.

Just what is the NJTA thinking about in closing the truck lanes tonight or don't they care? It is a Friday night in the busy Summer travel month of August.  The northbound Turnpike is a mess!

The Ohio Turnpike holds customer appreciation days for its motorists.  The New Jersey Turnpike seems to go out of its way to inconvenience its motorists.

It is surprising they would do that on a Friday night. Normally such projects are done Sunday thru Thursday nights, but not Friday and Saturday. At least here on Long Island anyway.

What's with the entire sign being greened out?

Looks like toll plaza construction to me.

Not at the toll plaza, but before.

Construction taking place just after Exit 17 for NJ 3/495 East.  Only 2 thru lanes available. The right lane is a temporary Exit Only Lane for Exit 17.  The sign would be incorrect for lane options, so they just blanked it out.

(This is obvious by simply moving the GSV a few clicks prior to this point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/7R5ev5tV5wF6Fk8y6 and a few clicks after this point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/S6sFwBSF9YA37jYJA )

Yeah, I noticed that it received a lane diet at that location.  I thought NJTA figured out that six lanes is not needed being the other Spur carries the bulk of through traffic.

Glad you clarified that.

It will be 6 lanes again when construction is completed. They decided one could be closed for the bridge work, which isn't often an option elsewhere on the Turnpike.

Anyone know when I-695 is going live?

Google still hasn't added it to their maps.

I wonder just how many people are upset that Route 3 departs now from Exit 18 E and no longer Exit 16 E.  I'm sure that was not only for the morning XBL, but a ploy to get Secaucus goers to use Exit 15 X and probably many are using the newest exit to circumvent the higher toll.

Using I-95's signing pace as a guide, you probably have some time before they sign it.

The Turnpike didn't readily sign I-95 for 60 years between Interchange 10 & 18.  As the Turnpike officially became 95 down to Exit 7A, there may have been a sign or two in the median, but it wasn't a normal sight.  Only after they opened the 95 interchange in PA did the NJ Turnpike, over the course of several years, sign 95 up fully between Interchanges 6 & 18, along with approach roadway signing.

The application of 695 was apparently overlooked for a few years, and the NJTA sat patiently without any concerns (at least publicly).  Since its announcement, the NJTA hasn't really said anything about it (at least publicly).

So, they may be preparing the signage. They may get around to posting the signage.  But if I were to put my money down, they're not in any rush to do anything would be my bet.

Plus look at how long it took to sign NJ 495 on Exits 16E and 17 guides.  It wasn't until the aughts or early teens that got done.

I believe NJDOT hasn't added I-95 either coming from I-280 in Kearny to this day.  That's an interstate to interstate junction and should have never been signed without back in 1980 when that part of 280 opened.

Then for decades the NJ Turnpike trailblazers didn't include a I-95 shield until most recently.

You mean this? It was added back between '09 and '12.

They should really get on it soon, cause signs like this just look goofy with the Lincoln tunnel as the control and just blank space all over. Note the sign to the right saying the speed limit is strictly enforced. The 45 mph work zones are not 'strictly enforced' lol
