Why are people consistently surprised and disappointed when a multibillion dollar corporation acts in its own financial interest?

Anyway, the 49ers are 2-3 in the season before they're forced to pay their QB about 55 times more money than they are now.

The two entities that had the worst day today are Anthony Richardson and the Colts defense.

If you are referring to NFL entities, both Josh Allen and the Bills (offensive) coaching staff had worse days. Insane losses have become such a staple of the McDermott era that it was actually a relief to get one checked off this early in the season.

The Jets-Vikings game differed by 1 yard, 1 turnover, 0 first downs, about 1 minute of possession, and 1 score (23-17):

I think the Jets thought they were going to get the Aaron Rodgers of '20 or '21, but instead they got the one from '22. He can still make many of the throws, though his arm is clearly weaker, but has no mobility.

And the offense looks like something straight out of last decade with little motion at the snap. (Something he didn't like about LaFluer's offense - which is crazy.)

My guess is that Rodgers is retiring after this year. I think he's realizing his body is fighting against him based on some interviews I've seen this year.

He's so far detached from reality in other aspects I question whether he will accept his physical reality.

Maybe when he trips on Ayahuasca next time, he'll get the truth which he seeks.

Not even close. Richardson got completely shown up by a 40 year old backup and the Colts defense ceded 500 yards, 37 points, and an L to what was a bottom 3 offense until yesterday in a season of terrible offenses.

Relative to expectations. Former MVP candidate Josh Allen recorded the lowest completion percentage for a QB with 30+ pass attempts in over 30 years, and this supposed championship caliber coaching staff not only had zero answers for a Texans defense that the Vikings just shredded, their end of game management was such a disaster that they couldn't even get to overtime. It was so bad that if it happened in the playoffs, the entire staff would probably be on the street right now.

Quote from: jlam on August 15, 2024, 09:55:09 AMI'm very tempted to fork the Vikings right now, but I'll wait to see what they do at quarterback. I'll probably find eight teams more deserving of a fork.
No you can fork the Vikings. The division is so much better than them. Even the Bears have a legit shot at a playoff spot.
Packers and Lions will fight for the division crown. Each likely 12-5. Bears I can see being 10-7 or 9-8. Vikings will be lucky to be 4-13.

I'll take that bet for the over of 4.5.

Still willing to take the bet!
How about no? lol
That being said, the NFC North is just a "bitchfest" of a division. I don't think the rest of the NFC wants any part of it. Could have 2 WC teams the way its going.

Maybe relative to talent would have made more sense. It has to be relative to something because Allen is at a completely different stage as a player than Richardson and the Bills are at a completely different stage as a franchise than the Colts, and that makes a huge difference in the implications of their performances.

Expectations or no, I still think the Bills had the worse day, but we can agree to disagree on that.

Just remember both teams, especially the Texans, made bad decisions in that final minute, especially the last set of downs for the Texans made foolish passes which only took 28 secs off the clock -- inexplicably leaving the door open for the Bills, but no one wants to talk about that.  If the Texans had run the ball in that final minute (just like everyone thought Sean McDermott should have done), Buffalo wouldn't have even been given a chance.  So it works both ways; the Texans almost gave that game away.

I haven't even mentioned all the penalties called on the Texans since halftime, who let the Bills back in the game in the first place.  The first one called on Dalton Schultz, he wasn't even taunting anybody, yet the officials decided to take way 15 yards from our offense.  And we lost Nico Collins for most of that game.

As I was saying this time last year, a torn Achilles tendon is an injury from which one CAN return to the playing field, but but he'll NEVER play at the same level as before.  Rodgers should retire from active playing and go into either coaching or the broadcast booth.

Why? The are doing what they the contract calls for.

I know, I just feel like it's primetime caliber at this point.

I didn't think they could start flexing this early in the season
(Granted, I may be thinking of previous TV contracts, and that is no longer the case)

I also don't think they can flex this early, plus there are limits on how often teams can play in prime time. Washington probably nowhere near that limit but Baltimore might be. CBS and FOX have to get some of the best games in order to keep paying what they pay.

A few years ago the NFL modified the rules where Week 5 is now the earliest a game can be officially flexed to Sunday night, but it's more restrictive than later season flexing. For example, in the later season, CBS and FOX only get a limited number of protections where they have to use them wisely. However if the NFL decides they want to flex before Week 11, CBS and FOX automatically get a protection to use during whatever week the NFL is looking to make a change.
