If a logo featuring a freaking green anthropomorphic alligator was found to violate the Buc-ees trademark, this thing doesn't stand a chance... They must have quite a grip on Texans. https://www.cspdailynews.com/company-news/beaver-beats-alligator

Yikes.  That makes me hate Buc-ees on principle.  Those logos aren't anything alike.  Trying to trademark "any cartoon character in a circle" is like trying to trademark rounded rectangles.  Plus it looks like they're trying to say that nobody else is allowed to operate a convenience store in the state of Texas.

Sounds like a miserable company. And their stores are overated anyway.

Someone would either have to be extremely stupid or have ulterior motives to think the Choke Canyon Bar-B-Q logo looks similar at all to Buc-ee's logo. The idea that a jury would side with Buc-ee's in that case points to something slimy going on in the background. It looks like a very corrupt decision.

Obviously the logos would never be mistaken for one another, but just to play devil's advocate in terms of why the jury may have sided with Buc-ee's, the biggest reason they don't look alike is the fact that a beaver and an alligator look nothing alike. Other than that, they are almost identical conceptually: yellow circle background with a smiling animal in the center, plus both animals are wearing a hat, both are open-mouthed/showing their teeth/tongue, and both are positioned in the same direction.

I can't help but wonder if it actually hurt Choke Canyon Bar-B-Q that their designer was from overseas and had never heard of Buc-ee's. Because if they had thought of potential trademark issues, they could have definitely made a few tweaks to make it look less like Buc'ee's logo with a different animal.

Local officials for the proposed DeForest WI location are lobbying the state legislature for the state to pay the half Buc-ees is not paying for infrastructure costs as they were at a standstill with WisDOT. I was disappointed with the asrticle implying this was the only proposed Wisconsin location with no mention of the proposed Oak Creek location.

The only company as litigious or more as Buc-ee's may be Yeti.

Quote from: Elm on January 13, 2025, 11:17:51 PMRe: 2nd Colorado Buc-ee's: A few of our local NIMBY groups are headlining a lawsuit against Palmer Lake over deeming the potential Buc-ee's site eligible for annexation. (KOAA article, but all the news outlets have a version).

The Town of Palmer Lake released this response.

Guess they'll throw up complaints at every stage of the process. This part is eligibility for annexation, Buc-ee's or not. Still to come are the actual annexation, development plan, etc.

Personally, while I like this site for myself, I agree with Bobby5280 that north Pueblo would be a good alternative if it falls through. There's a void between Pueblo and Colorado Springs with the Piñon rest stop and truck stop closed.

The plans to annex land for Buc-ee's in Palmer Lake has been withdrawn. On hold for now.

EDIT: https://ewscripps.brightspotcdn.com/97/ce/c351df4943c58ee18d81797f26ee/bucees-permit.pdf

I hope if a Buc-ee's is built in Tallahassee off I-10 that it doesn't hurt the Busy Bee Travel Center at the Live Oak exit. The Busy Bee is similar to Buc-ee's, but it's more of a local place and they allow 18 wheelers to fuel up.

Bobby5280

Busy Bee doesn't have any locations in Tallahassee; the Busy Bee location in Live Oak is 87 miles away from Tallahassee at I-10 exit 283 (US-129). The proposed Buc-ee's location in Tallahassee will be built at Exit 196 (Capital Circle NW).

Buc-ee's has a company-wide policy of not allowing 18 wheel trucks; the only exceptions to that would be trucks that are delivering goods and supplies to the Buc-ee's stores. Busy Bee does serve semi truck customers. At least that part of their market will be safe from Buc-ee's competition. Pilot, Flying J and TA Travel Centers seem to survive just fine after a Buc-ee's store opens nearby. A couple of those truck stops are located at the next exit West of where Buc-ee's is proposed in Tallahassee.

Not everyone likes Buc-ee's either. The stores are too big for the liking of some people. Buc-ee's does have good prices on some things, even the gasoline in some cases. Other convenience stores nearby would probably at least need to be competitive on their pricing.

Max Rockatansky

The worst thing about Buc-ee's is the weird acolytes who push the shit out of the brand on Facebook road groups.  I swear sometimes that they are actually corporate plants on some sort of social media marketing experiment.

I like Buc-ee's alright, but it's not like it's the greatest invention ever. The novelty does wear off after awhile. The super stores can work well for a stop during a road trip. They're not so great if you only need to make a quick stop at a neighborhood convenience store.

I wish they would build at least one or more of those super stores in Oklahoma. It is pretty strange there are still no Buc-ee's locations in the Sooner State when the company's home state is just across the Red River. They've built locations across the Southeast US from Kentucky down to Florida. They expanded to Colorado. They have locations proposed in Wisconsin, Ohio and even Arizona. The situation has made me wonder if Buc-ee's executives have something against Oklahoma or if there is some policy the state has that is a deal-breaker for them. I'm also wondering the same thing about In-N-Out Burger. The OKC metro and some other notable locations in Oklahoma are well within the delivery range of the Fort Worth In-N-Out distribution center. In-N-Out has plans to expand into New Mexico via its Colorado Springs distribution center. But they have no plans to expand into Oklahoma.

I've been there a couple times. No big deal to me. There is zero chance I'm stopping at one in Wisconsin if there is a Kwik Trip in the area.

Buc-ee's v. Barc-ee's. The latter is a single-outlet coffee shop and dog park in Marshfield, Missouri, and the issue is apparently their logo.
