Does anyone know if the Triple Decker Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Chesapeake is been completed?

Last GSV is in 2023 showing it in progress, but no recent images since.

The project is still underway - I believe the completion date is Summer 2025.

Looks like VDOT moved its LRS Route Master link overnight.  :pan:

It looks like the Virginia Roads portal was down but it appears to be working now.

There seem to be some VDOT ArcGIS tools popping up referring to a new version of the LRS Route Master (25.1), but the links don't appear to be working.

VDOT has released version 25.1 of the LRS Route Master (the version of their map that does not show overlaps, so concurrencies aren't visible). Time to look for changes.

Was wondering why Norfolk is directed from I-264 East in Portsmouth to VA 164 West instead of straight through the Downtown Tunnel?

Is the Midtown Tunnel a better route across the Elizabeth River?

It depends where you're going in Norfolk. If you're going up the Hampton Blvd corridor to the Naval Base, Port of Virginia (a lot of trucks travel this corridor), ODU, or Ghent, then yes the Midtown Tunnel is the best route. The completion of the MLK Expressway around a decade ago completed this missing link.

Hampton Blvd has its own traffic problems, but those aren't going to be fixed until the Third Crossing is (ever) built.

The new version of the LRS Route Master and LRS Route Overlap maps are now on VDOT's Virginia Roads portal (so the data tables are now viewable)...and they have some work to do because VA 392 is apparently back from the dead. CTB explicitly decommissioned it in 2022, but it's showing as an active road. GSV shows all the 392 signs have been removed and it's definitely not an active public road.

I know it's technically Virginia related, but should there be a separate thread created for these route signposting in localities? It seems to have taken up this entire thread.

Sorry about that...if @74/171FAN or another mod wants to split those posts out it's fine with me.

So looking at GSV, this signal on US 11 SB at SR 873 just south of Winchester has been up, but inactivated since 2017.

I thought VA Beach was bad signing both US 58 and US 60 in the Oceanfront Area, but Norfolk is even worse with both US 460 Alternate and VA 337.

Even guides on I-264 Eastbound at Exit 9 fail to even acknowledge US 460 Alternate and the Exit 10 guide for the Left Exit 10 don't state that Tidewater Drive is VA 337 either.

Plus Exit 11 ( Eastbound) don't connect to VA 168 Northbound and US 460 Westbound.  You would figure that Tidewater Drive would also be signed for WB US 460 and NB VA 168.

VDOT, whom I assume maintains I-264, should at least be more acceptable to signing state and US routes than the independent cities.

US 460 ALT isn't even signed from US 460 along Church Street at Bramelton Avenue where it commences from it's parent route.

That's odd, why even install it if they're not going to use it?

I assume they're waiting for Renaissance Dr to open all the way to its western end.  The CSX crossing has been delayed...

I like the way VDOT posted the shields on the blades at this intersection in Ladysmith. I hope they continue doing this moving forward.

Thing 342

Quote from: Thing 342 on January 30, 2025, 11:47:00 PMAnother phase of the Colonial Parkway rehabilitation project has begun. In addition to existing closures, the Parkway will be closed between VA-132Y and VA-641/Penniman Road until mid-2026. With the current set of closures, basically the only stretch of the parkway that will be usable is the portion between VA-199 and Jamestown Island until about mid-March.

Considering that many of the bridges are not being replaced, this project seems to be moving at a snail's pace. The portion between Penniman Road and Yorktown, which serves some amount of commuter traffic, has been effectively closed for over a year now. The tunnel underneath Colonial Williamsburg has been closed for at least two.

March came and went without much change or news, Google Maps now lists the portion between Yorktown and Cheatham Annex as being closed until May 30. Not that I'd put much stock in that value, since it also shows the portion between Cheatham Annex and Williamsburg which will be closed until mid-2026 as opening back up on April 30
