My AC turned on for the first time this year only yesterday.  I was hoping to make it to June since that has never happened before.  Seems the temperature will dip back into range where it won't run starting tomorrow.   Kind of strange for the Fresno area not to be topping 100F with little regularity.

The old Upstate farmer rule of thumb from decades ago was that planting before June 1st risked frost...

I've used both my A/C and heat in the same day plenty of times this year already.

When companies advertise new products that aren't actually widely available yet. Reese's announced new PB&J big cups, but I have yet to find them.

Now, it may be for reasons that aren't Hershey's fault that rollout is slow, I admit.

They've been out for a while in my area.  Common now.

Yup, they have a captive audience, thus the much markups. How much does the airport make off those stores anyways?Fortunately, I carry a water bottle when traveling and fill up at a water fountain.

100%. Bottled water is for suckers. I use a Cnoc Vesica collapsible water bottle every time I travel, especially on planes.

Not a super healthy way to live if you don't drink water.

The whole thing with bottles of water at airports is nothing but security theatre.

Unless something has changed in the past couple years, you are allowed to take empty bottles through. I typically take a Nalgene and fill it up at a fountain once I'm through security.

I drink water. I don't like doing so.

You can still bring empty water bottles through security.

Or those departing from DFW - almost no water fountains with refilling stations. But most US airports have bottle filling stations in 2025, thankfully. Even most small airports have them nowadays.

I use a 20oz Hydro Flask with the Flex Sip lid. Anything much larger won't fit in a seat pocket. Five years, used nearly every week, 2-5 days a week, and no major issues.

Heck, the TSA is okay with an empty 20oz pop/soda/water bottle even with a little condensation in it. I've done that before if I forgot my flask at home.

I would agree... the airports do make the fountains hard to find in favor of making you spend more money.

Quote from: hbelkins on May 22, 2025, 01:31:36 PMBack last winter when my Bell's palsy first kicked in, I had to use a straw for everything, even bottles of pop. Either that, or hold one side of my mouth closed with my hand while I drank out of the bottle. Try that when you're driving.

I didn't know you had Bell's palsy, HB. That has to be rough. Take care of yourself and get and stay healthy, man. I'm rooting for you.

Yep, had it last January. It made eating and drinking a PITA for about six months, and I sounded like I was drunk when I talked for awhile. I also had to sleep in an eyepatch for awhile because I couldn't completely close my right eye and they were afraid it would get scratched. I still notice a little residual droop in the right side of my face, but I'm the only one who notices it.

My wife freaked when it happened and took me to the ER. She was afraid I was having another stroke.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Maybe more than minor at times but road users who are "tentatively aggressive" like they want to do dumb things but are scared to do them.

Like pedestrians who charge out into the street trying to rush through a gap in traffic, you hit your brakes because they're now in the road, then they go "oh crap maybe I shouldn't have done that" and stop in the street and stare at you, and it becomes a standoff where neither of you moves because you don't know what the other is doing.

I see it too with guys who realize they're about to miss their exit, but just try to "excuse me" their way over to the exit like they're scared to be aggressive to do this thing they shouldn't do anyway. Just bleeping do it then.

It's from 2023; so unless they put them in last month, there's zero in Terminal E. Which of course, is the only terminal that isn't connected to the other four, except by SkyTrain.

There's a few in D, which was modernized recently, and I know of one in B or C (can't recall exactly).

To be fair, I recall LAX has exactly one in the Delta terminal and it took forever to fill a bottle, not helped by someone vainly filling some 64oz jug, presumably so they could spend the entire flight either in the tiny lavatory or patiently waiting for their moment to be the on-board fire brigade.

Why?  Other drinks are mostly water.  For example, while there would be some slight health risks to drinking nothing but unsweetened tea, I don't think it would be fair to call it 'not super healthy'.

I don't want to go that route, because I've read of registry tweaks later becoming ineffective after some Windows update or another that renders them useless.

About the only drink outside of plain water that is actually "healthy" is green tea. Most other drinks are either going to have sugar, alcohol, or diuretic effects.

Umm, green tea has a diuretic effect.

But anyway, according to the NIH, for caffeine to produce any significant diuretic effect, you'd need to consume more than half a gram of it.  That's about ten cups of black tea per day.  Studies have shown that tea consumed in amounts less than 1.5 liters per day yielded no noticeable differences in hydration compared to the same amount of water.

But even then, the noticeable diuretic effect of larger amounts of caffeine wouldn't undo all the hydration you received from all that liquid in the first place.  That is to say, if you somehow do start to get dehydrated drinking nothing but tea, then you can just drink more tea, because it's 99%+ water.

Also, decaffeinated tea exists.

So do herbal teas.

I misspoke in which case. Tea is just about as good as water. Coffee slightly less so. Everything else is moderately to considerably worse from a hydration/overall health perspective. Better?
