You're being irrational. 3 is the only integer between them.

"New book covering", remember when your parents would make book covers out of paper grocery sacks for hardback books that didn't come with them?

My sister did that for her high school textbooks, then she'd color them artistically with markers.

I remember one time a teacher made us do that for our textbooks as a homework assignment.  I thought the whole thing was stupid.

I had a teacher that required that in high school, but it was far into my school career that neither I nor my parents were in any mood to be artsy, so we just bought some made out of spandex that we found at the store.

I recall that the use of paper bags was taboo among the student populace.  It was taken as an indication that your family was poor if they didn't give you vinyl.

FWIW, I don't think any of my sister's teachers required that she do this.  Granted, she's six years older than me, but it was a small town, and I don't remember seeing anyone else in town with textbooks covered in brown paper, nor did any of the teachers require it when I got to high school.  I think she just did it to be different.
