As long as we have family in Mexico I plan on doing snowbird tours there.  I'm not interested in seeking citizenship though.  My wife might try to seek dual citizenship so she can inherit her dad's property.

You know how hotels and motels are going away from individual-sized toiletries in favor of refillable bottles permanently mounted to the bathroom and shower walls? That's a minor thing that bothers me. Those little soap bars are handy when you use a public restroom that's out of soap.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

The fact that I cannot get a case with internal 3½" drive bays locally, never mind one with eight of them. I understand why this is occurring, as a gamer is going to be either using NVMe drives or SSDs. While I'm sure that if I search around the DFW area and find one, it was easier to just order one from Amazon.

Why do I need eight 3½" drive bays? I'm rebuilding my NAS server, and the new server motherboard doesn't fit into the mATX case.

Quote from: Scott5114 on April 01, 2025, 08:56:30 PMHere's a new one for me that I hope doesn't spread any further. I went to El Pollo Loco today (it's a West Coast chain that's basically KFC if it were Mexican). In the drive thru, instead of a menu board, there was just a sign with a QR code on it that allegedly went to the menu. (I don't know if this is standard for this chain, or just this location.) And of course, because nothing on mobile ever works right, it wouldn't load on my phone (and I tried two different browsers). So I had to basically hold up the line while the lady read off the menu to me until I found something that sounded like what I wanted.

I really don't understand why we have to make absolutely everything go through shitty-ass mobile phones when we had ways of doing things that worked perfectly fine for decades before that. Why would anyone want to look at the menu on the phone instead of just looking at a sign?

I went back to El Pollo Loco today and was pleased to find that they have an actual menu board now. Actually, they now have so many menu boards they sort of block the view of each other. But I'd rather have that than no menu at all.

We played Ticket to Ride for the first time last weekend (fun!).

Why is the city in Minnesota labeled Duluth when it's obviously Minneapolis, which is a much larger, more well-known city and historically a significant transportation hub?

The geography is wrong in plenty of places. Helena is about where Billings is in real life. Las Vegas was basically nothing in 1910 (when this game is based) - only a population of about 3k. Duluth was a much more important city back in that time, being obviously the westernmost port on the Great Lakes. Its population was only about 50% of Minneapolis' then.

I got my annual state inspection done for my car today at Warren Tire, but instead of thoroughly cleaning off the old residue and placing the sticker where they're supposed to, they left a bunch of residue on the windshield and placed the sticker above where the old one was, so it's no longer in line with my registration sticker.  Not to mention that I have a ton of ugly sticker residue on my windshield.  Due to how it's angled, I have no capacity to clean it.  Even the dealer (who I have change my registration sticker every other year as I'm unable to do it myself) would probably need to take the sticker off to clean it.  I wish NYS would just go sticker-less like so many other jurisdictions are. :banghead:

Between this and a whole bunch of crap going on with my apartment, I feel like I'm under a bad luck curse.

When the dashed lines don't line up in places like this.  I like it better when it's done like this instead.

Don't come to Spain then. Dashed lines not aligning is the norm here.

It's the norm here too.  I'm sure there are other places that do striping the way Nebraska does, but I don't think it's common overall.  In my opinion, though, it's the right way.

Remember that NYS went to requiring those inside the windshield stickers to foil plate thieves, especially in NYC.

I wasn't advocating to go back to plate stickers, but to do what many other places have done (like CT, PA, and QC) and get rid of stickers entirely.  The information can be obtained via plate readers and computers today.  If there's an issue with plate thieves beyond the old plate stickers, perhaps they could figure out how other states have handled it, or get rid of the inspection sticker but keep the registration sticker.  Either way, I have no idea how I'm supposed to fix the aesthetics of my windshield given what happened yesterday.  It's going to look fugly for the entire rest of the time I own the car (which, given how I don't like the privacy implications and over-computerization of modern cars, will probably be forever unless it becomes unreliable for long road trips).

I like the center strips to be centered.  When there's one stripe or dashed line, it should be at the center.  When there are two stripes, the center of the road should be between them.

I don't disagree.  But it gets rid of sticker residue.

So does Zep Big Orange.  When I worked in the returns department at a publishing company, that's what we used to remove price stickers from books during our refurbishing process.

Ahh!  That striping technique hails from the days when the dashed line was required to be white.  Thusly, there were three paint heads on the machine.

Geesh, I can even remember when the old West Virginia State Road Commission couldn't afford hardly any three headed paint stripers and each stripe was painted separately.  Back in those days, almost every straight stretch ended up with only the center dashed white stripe, even in places where you couldn't even think of passing.  Very seldom did we have any solid yellow stripes combined with dashed white stripes.  The one exception was the West Virginia Turnpike (where there were a lot of uphill passing zones on the old two-lane road).

See, I don't like that, because it makes the double lines too far apart. (It also means if you can't pass you also lose a few inches of lane width, although that doesn't really matter if the lane is full width.)
