Quote from: LilianaUwU on June 05, 2025, 05:10:35 PMWikipedia editors' blatant Americentrism, and especially their obsession with creating brand new articles about the current administration's every move.

It's almost like things that happen in the world's richest and most powerful country are important.

But the exact same thing happens to Canada, or the UK, or France, or Mexico, or even Russia, and fucking crickets happen.

This isn't even just related to politics: an event that kills 19 people in Canada is sent to articles for deletion, but an event in the US that only kills 7 is perfectly fine.
That's just dumb. I've seen biases on Wikipedia of all kinds, including pro-American and anti-American articles and people who want to delete them. I even read an anonymous IP from the man who claims that he perpetuated the myth that 4,000 Jews were told not to the World Trade Center.

A previous version of the article on the Pelham Parkway was taken right out of Streetsblog. I complained about the bias and nearly got in trouble for it. Another time I got in a full-fledged edit war with somebody who denied the brutality of the Judge Rotenberg "Educational" Center.

One time for some unexplained reason I stumbled upon an article on the Bangladesh Communist Party. It was nothing but a long one-paragraph rant about all the things they claim they're going to do once they get control of the country, ending with the standard "WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE" slogan written in all caps. The last I saw, that article was deleted, but it was never replaced with anything more reasonable.

I'm almost certain I already mentioned this, but this happened to me and multiple others during rush hour so I have to mention it again: those who think the best time to fill up their grocery bag at the self serve registers is once they've paid everything. There's a damn good reason the register prompts you to put every item into the bag once you scan it.

Unless a bag is already loose I usually do the bagging after the transition is over.  For whatever reason the modern grocery bags want to stick together and take effort to separate.  I rather just get my transaction over than having the register screaming at me because I'm not scanning fast enough.

That's why they have invented registers that scream "Please take your items" at you over and over while you're bagging.

(I bag after I scan too, but that's because normally I bring my own bags, and trying to figure out how to get that to work with the scale without the register inflicting psychic damage on me isn't worth it.)

Is this a serious question? Most of the world still uses single use bags. And I like plastic bags I can't stand paper bags.

And I generally reuse those bags anyways for stuff around the house and smaller trash cans in the bathrooms. When I've had people over for lunch or dinner I send them some food to go if there's any leftover and some Tupperware and I give them a plastic bag.

It's not the end of the world and I'm sure I'll get used to using reusable bags but I really don't think this is gonna do much to help the environment and it's just another inconvenience that we have to put up with in California, but it's whatever.

I tend to believe that punishing individual consumers as part of a virtue signal is pretty shitty.  That's pretty much what this plastic bag stuff has always been about since day one.

But yeah, I reuse plastic bags around the house for all sorts of thing.  Dog waste and small garbage can bags are the two most common things I use plastic bags for.

And I mean not to mention the amount of people that litter. I see people litter all the time here in Los Angeles literally just throwing shit all over the place. The only time I will ever confront someone over littering is if I see it happen in a national park or the forest.

I was doing some DoorDashing today, I guess Wendy's is already getting into the Halloween spirit. They have some meal of misfortune thing that they're branding with Halloween themes. It seems like every year holidays/traditions like Halloween and Christmas get shoved down her throat earlier and earlier. And personally, I love Halloween the most as I'm a huge horror movie fan but when you're celebrating it for half of the fucking year, it kind of takes the fun out of it.

Plastic bags are great because they're durable and can be reused for multiple things as has already been pointed out.
