With the forum search broken, should we let guests view fictional/mass transit?

This is a non sequitur, how does the internal search not working address the issues that caused those boards to be privated in the first place (accounts created solely to post in those boards and filling them with junk content)

Quote from: Molandfreak on September 30, 2025, 09:09:58 PMI really don't understand why the urban planning board isn't visible to everyone. Sure, the mass transit board could attract more NUMTOT type folks who don't understand nuance, but since the mods let the anti-roundabout folks go off with the same tired arguments and lack of nuance that occurs everywhere else on the internet, why is a lack of nuance regarding other road-related projects a problem?
I'd say there are 1-2 users on this forum who are true "urbanists", and several more who are more urbanist than most on the forum but not all the way there (like me, I'm actually "railgeekteen" on 2 other forums). I'd say that mass transit is less controversial than urban planning, which has the disastrous California thread with Kernals rallying against Point Reyes National Seashore and political arguments being spewed back and forth.
I don't see K12 coming up with a ridiculous argument like the Portland Metro government and similar planning organizations are just ploys to waste taxpayer dollars. Because the mods should definitely intervene when such outrageous claims are made.
Did you quote the wrong post, or are you trying to instigate a witch hunt on Terry Shea for what looks to me to be an irrelevant and innocuous comment? I know you don't like the guy, but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt here that you quoted the wrong thing, because his quote has nothing to do with what you said he said.

I wouldn't wish living in California on my worst enemy.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy living here.  Although I do think it is way more on my terms than most people experience.
I lived in L.A. for 12 years (first four as a college student, then the other eight as a bona fide resident), and that was more than enough.

When I lived in Phoenix, I had southern California stores in my LP market twice between 2007-2013.  I turned down three transfer offers to relocate to Los Angeles and San Diego.

I was bored after a three-year stint in Florida and moved to the Central Valley via work transfer in January 2016.  I found the area to be pretty affordable and intended to buy a house in early 2018.  I met my now wife in June 2017, she bought the house we live in presently on a short sale in 2011.  Considering how much equity we have and how low our mortgage is it would be hard to find a more affordable living situation.  Things certainly much more tolerable given we are fairly insulated economically from outside influences.

I know, but I can't delete my own topics and why I suggested it isn't applicable anymore. Yall decided to respond to me and start talking about Terry Shea.

Of course we responded, since we didn't want something bad to be implemented because of lack of opposition.

Fair enough, though I doubt it was actually gonna get implemented as the mods have always been against it. I was talking more about the Terry Shea and Induced Demand rabbit hole we got into.

Well this board is public so now all these people know about transit  :pan:

Being serious, not so much transit but ficitonal highways, but a big part of why I joined was so I could read that board as I couldn't as a guest. It's hidden but mentioned so much that I found out quick that it existed.

You really think a transit person would be doing a deep dive on a road forum's "Suggestions and Questions" board?

Quote from: Roadgeekteen on September 30, 2025, 08:52:45 PMThis was posted when I thought search was broken everywhere, but when I realized it worked in individual forums, this is no longer necessary.

It was never necessary to begin with.

Quote from: Molandfreak on September 30, 2025, 09:09:58 PMI really don't understand why the urban planning board isn't visible to everyone.

Because then, to some degree at least, this would certainly become a transit forum instead of a roads forum.  And, as Scott pointed out, there would be significant bleeding over of transitonlyism into the non-transit boards.

This was explained in the OP.  With forum search broken or at least handicapped, it's often a better tactic to search in Google instead of within the site itself.  But, if the post you're looking for happened to be in a Fictional or Transit board, then Google can't find it for you.

I'm surprised there was no announcement when they fixed searching in threads to no longer always show zero results. (Overall searching is still broken; thread search isn't subject to that because the search is narrow enough.)

I'm guessing Google isn't all-encompassing even on the visible boards.  I've looked at the reports they have for my site and it's amazing what has not been crawled and/or indexed; I wouldn't be surprised if it's similar here.
