  • What is the longest you've gone without sleeping? About 30 hours. Had an early flight, couldn't fall asleep before leaving for the airport and then finally fell asleep on the plane.
  • Do you sleep while driving? (one of the poll options is "always") Only once ever for a split second as best I remember.
  • Has anyone tried the 28-hour day sleep schedule? Can't say that I have.
  • Who do you sleep with? In my twenties, anyone who would let me.  :) Nowadays my wife for the full night and then my 3-year-old for half the night. (I hate this phase.)

I think we need some clarification on that forth item.  Is it considered "sleeping with someone" if they (or you) go home after intercourse?

Nope. That's just boinking.

I'd argue it looks more like a revolver. Maybe a Jan 6th reference.

I count about 2-3 spots that look phallic, the National Mall, one near Rosslyn, and one near the Pentagon

Quote from: hotdogPi on October 21, 2025, 08:10:46 AMIn the vein of the existing sleep threads, including "how many states have you slept in" and "what is the highest elevation you've spent the night", here are some more ideas:

  • What is the longest you've gone without sleeping?
  • Do you sleep while driving? (one of the poll options is "always")
  • Has anyone tried the 28-hour day sleep schedule?
  • Who do you sleep with?

Interestingly enough, this classic thread also started with a sleep-related prompt.

I've been having a lot of back pain at night recently.  Last night I got to sleep pretty quickly but woke up after twenty minutes due to my back triggering.  My wife gave me her ergonomic pillow and it pretty much instantly solved the problem. I guess I'll probably be ordering one for myself I just never thought a pillow would be the solution.

Yeah, having a good pillow is an underrated contributor to sleep quality. Especially if you're a side sleeper, a flat pillow isn't going to cut it.

Seemingly this is the case.  I slept great last night with the same pillow and I didn't wake up with any back pain.  I did back strength training exercises yesterday and that doesn't seem to the factor I thought it was.

Today I did hockey work from a place called "Lovell Arena" outside Boston. I started fearing I have misread "Lovelll" as "Lowell" for over 20 years. It rurns out, thankfully, that Lowell is still Lowell and the arena is actually nowhere near Lowell.

If you are required to do one of the following at work, would you rather have to come in early, or stay late?

For me, the former.

Same.  In fact, I already come in a half-hour before both my nearest co-worker and my boss, by choice.

Same here. I'd rather get in early, get my work done, and then have some free time in the evening, especially when there's a 7:00 puck drop.

On the other hand for sports, having to get in early means that you are gonna be tired after watching the end of World Series games/Prime Time football games or any west coast games. I'd rather see the end of games than the beginning of games.

Ehhh. Then you have last night. The game in which I was interested (Monday Night Football) turned into a dud and I fell asleep on the couch. No great loss not seeing the end.

I do often miss the end of those 10:30 PM games when the Capitals are making a West Coast/Western Canadian roadtrip. But I'd fall asleep during those even if I started work an hour later than I do. My days of being able to stay awake until 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning on a routine basis are long past!

I could be running off of 0 hours of sleep and still couldn't fall asleep during even the latest of sports games. I am incapable of sleeping anywhere but a bed. Fair point, but during exciting endings it's such a relief knowing you don't have to get up early and can root for the game to go on and on, while if you do have to get up early you just want the game to end.

If you've ever read anything at all about whether cracking your knuckles is bad for you or not, then you've undoubtedly read that we know it isn't because a doctor named Donald Unger cracked the knuckles on only one of his hands for fifty years to no ill effect over that of his other hand.

My thought whenever I see this come up:  That's got to be the smallest sample size in the history of science.

The job I have now has no schedule (I do work when there's work to do, and if there's not, I don't) but if this was another job I'd worked, I would rather stay late. Reason being that the other jobs I've worked were ridiculously strict about what time you showed up, so I wouldn't want to take my chances agreeing to come in early and getting in trouble for being a few minutes late because I didn't know what traffic was normally like at that time. Much easier to get there at a time I know I can get there, then just not leave at the time I normally do.
