I-78 will be reconstructed from the Berks/Lehigh County line to the I-78 and US 22 interchange. Interstate 78 will be widened to 6 lanes (3 eastbound and 3 westbound) from the Route 863 interchange (Exit 45) eastward (phase 3).

This section of the I-78 corridor is vital because it connects local neighborhoods and manufacturing and shipping warehouses with the rest of the Lehigh Valley and to the greater mid-Atlantic Region and beyond. The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission expects future development along this corridor to bring more homes, manufacturing, warehouses, and commercial investments, which will increase the number of vehicles of all sizes on the network of roads and highways in this area.

These improvements will support increased traffic and make travel safer, serving the community well into the future. The project is currently in preliminary design through 2027 and will be in final design through 2029. Portions of the project, including the new interchange with Adams Road, will begin construction in early 2030. The remainder of the project will be completed in phases over the next five to seven years. The I-78 Reconstruction Project is fully funded through a combination of state and federal funding.


Six-lane widening for most of the project. Definitely needed. Would be nice if PennDOT could speed things up a little, but I guess good things come to those who wait.

I just saw in the news that the borough government of Stroudsburg wants to add a roundabout to Main Street  at Broad Street ( US 209 Bus. and PA 191) to ease traffic issues.

They claim the proposed traffic circle won't require any property taken as they measured it out for a single lane circle to fit.

The northern terminus of PA 441 will soon be moved to the intersection of Paxton Street and 28th Street as part of this project that separates Sycamore Street from intersecting Paxton Street.  I clarified the signage plans on ECMS to show this is the case.

I am sure either myself or jpi will know when this is done.

So if you traveled the segment of 28th Street between current PA 441 and Paxton Street, you already have this clinched.

It's a permanent reroute ultimately.

The story is blocked by a paywall. I'm not sure if US 22 and PA 33 should become Interstates. At the very least, I would support add exit numbers to the interchanges along the two routes (mileage-based numbers of course).
