Relax.  VD isn't redefining the seasons, just trying to pad the post count.  Sometimes "next month" isn't meant to be taken literally.  Sometimes it means "a few billion years".

Being real for a second.  It would be quite something to have the actual obliteration and end of the world occur during my lifetime.

Quote from: 1995hoo on June 02, 2026, 10:49:03 PMWe received $12 vouchers last week when our flight was delayed. We were eating at Legal Sea Foods when I got the electronic notification about the vouchers, so we simply applied them to the bill. They didn't nearly cover the meal, but it didn't much matter.

Unfortunately, the menu starts at $40 at airports' Legal Sea Foods so it's pretty much a no-go for travel expensing unless I haven't eaten all day.

Our trip was personal travel, so I wasn't concerned with such things, although when I travel for work I get a per diem and thus I don't have to submit receipts for meals. More often than not I wind up spending more than the per diem (any such overage is at my own expense), but such is life.

The craziest thing about all of Beltway's AI posts is that they don't come with emojis, or he edits all of them out.

Given his resistance to admitting when he's wrong when it's been made obvious that he is as wrong as can be (e.g., calling the $700m Phase 1 payment to Kiewit journalistic malfeasance or whatever), it's way past time that we let Beltway live rent free in our heads.  Got much better ways to spend time...

...unless it amuses oneself.  I used to look down on some of the antics on here until I met some of the "antic-ers" in real life -- thinking they were just lengthening useless, exhausting arguments.  Now I read their posts in a quite different, lighter tone. :D

Partly, it's an opportunity for a non-DOT employee like myself to get a peek behind the curtain, but also:

the point is not whether it's fair.  the point is that's all you get.  go enjoy your cuppa coffee and have a great day.

That $12 is usually good for 2-3 Monsters depending on the airport.

TIL that there is a semi-hidden joke in Toy Story 2 that Japanese speakers would get. When Al is on the phone with the toy museum in Japan, he says "don't touch my moustache" before hanging up the phone. I honestly never thought a lot about it before, but it is a mnemonic for "you're welcome" in Japanese (Dōitashimashite/どういたしまして). I wish studios still had the balls to include in-jokes like that in movies since it makes discussion about them a bit more interesting.

I was going to question that they even payed any attention to the route numbers, but numbers themselves are usually known in an area.

I recently flew into Songshan Airport in Taipei, whose 3-letter code is TSA. Ew.

Also, the "Shan" in "Songshan" is 山 ("mountain"); and "flew into the airport" feels a lot different from "flew into the mountain".

Both of them got delayed for umpteen years before they were completed (2003 and 1987).

We've had the conversation on here a few times, but apparently it's getting harder to just walk into the bank and get them.  Some banks require that you get a whole strap of them at a time because they don't want to have a partial sitting in the vault.

My wife gave me one a month ago.  She told it was for my wallet and I wasn't allowed to spend it.  I'm pretty sure this is some sort of superstition thing since she asks about the status of the bill occasionally.

You should get her a whole strap of them and tell her it's for her purse and she isn't allowed to spend it. Ask about the strap of $2s occasionally.
