Quote from: vdeane on July 17, 2025, 09:18:42 PMWhat's going on with Truck US 1/9 around Jersey City?  I was to be done a while ago, and the latest street view from late last year shows it as complete but blocked off and the street blade covered but turned away from traffic.
Let's chat in Brattleboro.

I will not be at Brattleboro, but I have been wondering about this too.  You can PM me on this if you are allowed to.

NJDOT is considering a SPUI to replace the partial diamond/cloverleaf interchange at I-295 & NJ 168. The design image is 2 lanes on all ramps at the single point and 1 lane taking off or landing on 295 at each ramp.

This would be NJDOTs first full modern SPUI. The NJTA also built one at 33/133 near Interchange 8.

NJDOT is a little late to the innovation of a SPUI. Didn't they just refurb that overpass in the past 10 years?

The presentation says that the deck was replaced in 2013 but the bridge itself is 65 years old.

So quite a few years back, NJDOT built a new ramp from 202 North to 80 East.  Supposedly this was to fix the problem of weaving between cars from 202 trying to stay on 80, and cars trying to get over to exit to 287.  It didn't fix the problem.  Is there any way the intergange could be modified to eliminate the problem?

Here's something that's kinda hyper local, but interesting to me, because it's on a road I drive on basically anytime I leave the house. This sign went up recently:

This is Schley Mountain Rd in Bedminster (turns into Allen Rd when it crosses the border into Bernards Twp). This has been under Somerset County jurisdiction for years at this point, but for whatever reason, the county has never signposted it. There have never been reassurance shields or mileage markers (which always include mini reassurance shields--which, is something Hunterdon County also does). Nor do the street name blades at the intersection with Martinsville-Liberty Corner Rd at the route's eastern end include a county shield. So it's interesting to me that they suddenly put up at least one shield acknowledging that this is CR652. I now wonder if we'll eventually see mileage markers and some reassurance shields in the near future.

Update! I had a chance to drive to the other end of Allen Rd where it meets Martinsville-Liberty Corner Rd (CR525), and I am pleased to see that not only is there a reassurance shield at the eastern end of Allen Rd heading west, but Somerset County has also put proper directional assemblies on CR525 and the street name blade on the traffic light now has the CR652 shield as well. We'll see if they add more reassurance shields and mile markers as time goes on. Still very surprised that Somerset County suddenly decided the world needed to know this road is a county road.

I saw on the internet that NJDOT is finally taking measures to tear down the bridge on the West Milford - Kinnelon border that carries Route 23 over the Susquehanna Rail line and ramp to Hamburg Turnpike.

Is that true? Or is it AI snare?

The post shows a temporary structure being installed with music from the Doors playing while in fast motion the work being done.

NJDOT is replacing the Pequannock River bridge. You can see the temporary bridge on Streetview.

I see NJDOT finally posted signs in Upper Township, Cape May County on US 9 North at Roosevelt Blvd before the dead end created by the closure and the removal of Beesly Point Bridge.  However, the signs say its a Truck Route using Roosevelt and the Parkway and the guide Northbound at Roosevelt says TO US 9 North and not US 9 North.

Also the guide on WB Roosevelt at US 9 now has the former Atlantic City  control city greened out with Beesly Point and still showing US 9 going both ways including North onto the dead end.

I'm also guessing NJ still hasn't gotten AASHTO to remove US 9 from Shore Road and the former Beesly Point Bridge.  The last application I saw was the realignment of US 206 near Netcong when I-80 got constructed over 60 years ago. Even US 322 in Mullica Hill was never applied to AASHTO for realignment to the bypass  nor the Bypass bannered route in Hillsborough for US 206.

I noticed that on the part of US 322 between the Delaware River and Route 42 at Williamstown has an unsigned concurrency with Gloucester CR 536.  Am I to assume that the county maintains all of the US route between those two points?

Also does Route 536 bypass Mullica Hill on the 322 bypass or  still use the old alignment ( along with the former overlap with Route 45)?

Yes, per the SLD, from MP 8.46 thru 15.91, that's roadway maintained by the county. Didn't realize they had that, last I knew, only 202 north of Morristown was mostly under county control but still signed with the US route.

That explains the un NJDOT mileage sign west of NJ 45.  Plus the poor signage at the Route 45 and US 322 intersection.  On NB Route 45 they dont acknowledge US 322 eastbound and still have the previous US 322 West to NJ Turnpike and Commodore Barry Bridge guide. In addition another 2 guide signs in both directions on NJ 45 that does list NJ 55 and Glassboro is also not a state guide either.

The other giveaway is that the traffic lights at the 322-45 intersection are not NJDOT standard at all. Also they don't have the NJDOT standard enhanced mile markers along that stretch.
