I don't remember.  Will the Natcher extension near Bowling Green be finished this year, next year, or sometime later?

Late this year, I believe. Most of the grade work is done.

Hearing a mid-February opening for the Pennyrile extension, which must mean that all the paving work got done last fall and they must be waiting for guardrail, signage, striping or some such to be finished.

all the way down to 24? fantastic news. will save me the worry of hitting of those buggies I am told i need to watch out for on 41 Alternate.

I rode through there early Friday night, and all of the striping and lighting and signing seems to be in place along I-24, but the new road is still closed.

The control city is simply "Hopkinsville."

I noticed that too when I went through there early last month.  I was eastbound on 24, and simply having Hopkinsville as the control city would make sense, but I'm wondering if the westbound 24 signage would at least have auxiliary control cities of Madisonville, Henderson, and Evansville.

If I'm not mistaken, there's no mention of Henderson or Evansville on the Western Kentucky Parkway at the Pennyrile exit. I think it's signed only for Madisonville and Hopkinsville.

Anything new on when the new segment will officially open to I-24?  I hear the weather up there has been bad recently.  Didn't know if that would hold things up at all.

It looks like the rest of the Pennyrile Extension will open the afternoon of Tuesday March 1.  See the attached article.

Yes, that's correct. Heard about this last week but forgot to post it here.

Pennyrile Parkway Extension finally opened in its entirety yesterday.  I have attached an article that contains photos.

Is that the final configuration for the ramp from Interstate 24 onto the Pennyrile? If so, it looks awfully substandard.

Someone should be moving to Eastern Kentucky as punishment from KYTC. I would suggest a 3 year post in Pike County designing gravel roads.

agentsteel53

well, they made the third lane extremely short because that parkway shield is so illegible that you won't know that you need to get off until you're within 12 feet of it.

My guess is that is the ramp from eastbound I-24 to the northbound parkway, as that would be the loop in the trumpet interchange that is most commonly used at one of the parkway ends. That movement would have less traffic than any of the other movements at the inter change. Traffic going from eastbound I-24 to Hoptown would use US 68/KY east at the Cadiz exit.

Look at the lane stripes. That photo is rather foreshortened.

Agreed, there's LOTS of telephoto compression at work in that image.

Yeah... and that web page has a picture looking at it "wrong-way" (with the crew working on the lights) and it doesn't look that bad.

(I'm also sure if it were as bad as it looked, the ramp SL would be less than 35mph.)
I don't have opinions anymore. All I know is that no one is better than anyone else, and everyone is the best at everything

Even worse, no acceleration lane from Interstate 24 west onto the Pennyrile Parkway northbound:

Just so you'll know, the Breathitt-Pennyrile Parkway has been extended to connect directly with Interstate 24.  The 6-mile long extension in 3 phases provides a direct high-speed connection for through-traffic. It allows drivers to avoid heavy traffic and 8 traffic signals along US 41-Alternate.

The ramps are no more "substandard" than other interstate/parkway to interstate/parkway ramps in the state. The top photo was taken with a telephoto lens, which can distort the distance or curvature in an image. The 35 MPH ramp is for the loop. As for the second image, the ramp is just like any other - 70 MPH SL to a 70 MPH ramp.

HighwayMaster

Kentucky does not usually put deceleration lanes on exits, so this is not abnormal. Besides, not very many motorists will use the 24E to Pkwy. N ramp, KY-80/US-68 is the most direct route from 24E to Hopkinsville.
