Road Geek Tattoos

Has anyone here ever wanted a roadgeek or travel related tattoo? Or, does anyone have one?

I always have, but have been too indecisive to get one. I've been indecisive in two ways: the actual design and the placement.

It's a bummer to me that the lower back area is now known as the "tramp stamp" area because it's probably one of the best places for a tattoo for a woman (little stretching from childbirth, can be easily hidden for professional reasons, but can be visible when wearing a bikini).

I always thought it would be cool to do half of an arm sleeve or to have my whole back done, but those take serious commitment to rock.

The things I would be most likely to get are the outline of the state of MD with a heart inside (kind of like this, but probably in a different place, like my ankle or something):

Or, the text "There's nothing that the road cannot heal" (from a song by Conor Oberst). It might be fun to do this in FHWA font (although a script font would probably look better), but again, placement?

I really love this idea of commemorating a roadtrip, but as a roadgeek, I go on so many...how do I pick just one?

I love the detail in this, but probably wouldn't get something like this done...or would I?

Not an idea that ever occurred to me.

But then, I despise the idea of tattoos (body graffiti, blech), so it's not something I'd ever consider doing.
If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

Don't have any, don't want any. (I once made a girl cry saying that.) I'm open-minded about them on other people, though.

My wife has several.

I have no desire to get a tattoo of any kind. My dislike of needles and pain is probably the most overriding reason.

I'll echo hb here...I am not into needles or pain.  I do, however, have an appreciation for tattoos.

I really hate the idea of getting a tattoo and think its a dumb fad my generation will seriously regret in twenty years so I wouldnt consider it. I wont lie though, a girl with a tat can be hot, but usually not for the right reasons.

I keep reading that as "the inkier the stinkier". Which, um, seems to be true in my experience. (If you don't get that, read the last part of corco's post)

I've got a friend who has several correct old-style shields.  (you'll never guess who provided the block fonts for reference.)

You won't ever see me with a tattoo. I don't see what the big deal is about them.

The pain associated with getting a tattoo is minimal.  It's like a moderate sunburn at worst.

Haven't considered a tattoo since I was 8.  However, if I did, a "Road Geek" one might be it.  I agree with " the road heals all".  I am happiest when I am on a road trip be it either by motorcycle  :bigass: or any other vehicle.

I see no reason to waste my money on a tattoo. Plenty of other ways to express myself.

I'll wear a hat or a shirt with my Avatar, but will probably never get a tattoo.

I wouldn't get one because of the permanence. Who's to say I'll still like what I got 20 years from now?

It would be kinda neat to have one of the Interstate system done. You'd have to go back and add to it to keep it up to date as I-69 and I-49 expand, though...

I recognize him: that's Ron Jones, the Route 66 Tattoo Man

You couldn't pay me enough to do that.

My tattoos are of things that I've liked for 20 years, so I doubt I'll be changing my mind on them.  For example, I have a Razorback hog on my shoulder, and I've been an Arkansas fan all my life, so I'm sure I won't be changing my mind.

I do appreciate that the artist included the corner of Kansas in the Route 66 tat.

Awesome! Do you have pics of your tattoos? I'd love to see them.

I know people with tattoos, and some of them regret them while others don't. I've found that the particular tattoos that people regret usually fall into the categories of "because I liked it at the time and now it's just an old trend", "I just really wanted a tattoo and this was the best idea for one that i could think of at the time". Or, the artist did a shitty job or the tattoo represents their old life and now they're clean/had a religious conversion/etc.

If I did get a tattoo, it would be of something that has been pretty important to me. The only serious contenders at this point would either be religious or road related. A future contender might be something relating to any future children.

I seriously considered getting a tattoo at age 21 but changed my mind. It would have been a tattoo in memory of my boyfriend who died, a simple song lyric: "love is a fragile as a wine glass". I didn't get it for various reasons (placement, indecision about the font, wine glass vs wineglass, conflict over "in memory of" tattoos in general). I don't think I would have regretted it, but I'm positive I wouldn't get it now.

I have been yearning to commission someone to have that lyric designed in a piece of jewelry (like a bracelet), which I could then take off when I please.

Here's the Razorback, located on my left arm near the shoulder:
