GSP/ I-78 interchange signage going up.

Looks like some exit number changes are on the way. The current Exit 142 is being split into 142A/B so each direction of I-78 will have its own exit number. While this isn't a problem southbound, on the northbound side there is already an Exit 142A for Union Ave., it will be re designated Exit 142C as per signs are already up (although the gore sign still says Exit 142A). Signs at Exit 139/140 have been replaced as well. Gone are the aluminum 70's NJDOT issue gantries seen below, and up went the rusty boxy GSP style gantries. I haven't driven that way yet, hopefully the old pull through is a bit more descriptive with a GSP shield and a control city or two.

EDIT: I don't prevent hotlinking but I don't like it.

For anyone curious:

Yup, those are it. The one in the background at Exit 140 definitely got replaced (with the funky US-22 shield) as I saw the signs laying in the median between US-22 West and the GSP, don't know if the one at 139B is staying or not. It looks like the new gantry might actually span the entire highway as opposed to one side.

I'm moving the Getty discussion into Off Topic.

Looks like the funky US-22 shield lives, they put up a new gantry but recycled the Exit 140 and Lane Ends signs. The pull thru one is still MIA though. Hopefully they listened and are making a nice new informative one.

Pics? If not maybe I'll go for one later today

You should always have your camera with you. :P

I never leave the house without mine. :)

NJRoadfan

I do have a cell phone camera, but its a bit awkward for phototaking. I'll hopefully be in the area tomorrow with a real camera.

NJRoadfan

I was exiting onto 22, but you can kinda see the new Exit 142A-B sign in the background.

City

Man, who in the world would make such a ugly US-22 shield? It is funky!

Yep.  There is a pair of US-19 ones like that just off of I-279 @ Exit #5 (Former Exit #12).

Truvelo

So what's wrong with the US-22 shield in the last picture? It looks fine to me. The one in NJRoadfan's picture seems to have 22 in a weird font but it's not too bad.
Speed limits limit life

too pointy at the bottom, and the 22 is too large and too close to the top.

worse than that.

*shudder*

Looks a bit like this one, in Erie...

Kentucky is using some butt-ugly shield shapes now, too...

Just a follow up, one of the new flyover ramps is opening up this Friday. Finally the much needed missing movement from the GSP north to I-78 west will be available. This link was originally supposed to be serviced by the unbuilt and canceled I-278 project, it only took them 30+ years. Previously traffic was only able to take I-78 east from the GSP north and had to U-Turn at Exit 54 to get onto the westbound side. The final flyover ramp to carry traffic from the GSP south to I-78 east is progressing along. Today the first girders were installed for that ramp, although much of the work has been focused on widening I-78's overpass over the GSP to accommodate that ramp. The final design will be a fully directional T interchange at both I-78 and the GSP.

Finally this Mistake is Corrected , now i can take the GSP to 78 Exit and Straight to The Airport without making a U-turn and any other crap :D

NJRoadfan

Not so fast, the southbound to eastbound ramp won't be done until 2011.

Another article in today's Star-Ledger... print version has pretty pictures. http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/jersey/index.ssf?/base/news-14/1253151911265840.xml&coll=1
