How does crossing the border into your home state/province/country look like? Please post pictures and/or Google street map view links of welcome / law signs, etc.

Entering New Jersey....

First pic: That entire assembly has been replaced with a NJ Turnpike-style VMS sign.

The second pic, obviously very old as Corzine hasn't been Governor for nearly 7 years.  Also not really a border crossing since you're in the state for about 2 or 3 miles before seeing that sign.

Not the best photo, but nostalgic nonetheless, on I-84 eastbound about 3/4 of a mile past the CT state line:

Does this still bear the anachronistic name "Dominion of Canada"?

It does not.  Just the flag.

Doesn't NY have those signs that list governor's names? I believe it ended until Cuomo ended his term, where they dropped his name off welcome signs for no reason.
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name

Pataki made a gesture of cost-cutting by not having his name put on there, an excellent example that typical political ego ensures is rarely followed.

Here are photos of all the state crossings into WA, WY, and AZ. Still working on finishing equivalent pages for ID, DE, and MT.

Very nice, but you need Point Roberts...

Not a state highway but yes, I do.

After Mitt Romney was elected in MA in 2002, he took them off after having 2 straight governors resign in office and need to have two name changes over two years. Deval Patrick nor Charlie Baker after have re-added them, thankfully.

Here are all forty of the states that I have driven in with my car:

I-290   I-294   I-55   (I-74)   (I-72)   I-40   I-30   US-59   US-190   TX-30   TX-6

Minnesota has tons of border crossings and I haven't photographed even 10% of them, but here are some examples of different things you will encounter as you enter.

Large stone monument (I-94) - seen on Interstates and other major crossings

Small stone monument with a hanging wooden sign (US 14/61/MN 16 at La Crosse/La Crescent) - seen at semi-important crossings

Small rectangular sign (MN 4) - seen on rural, lightly-travelled crossings

The Virginia welcome sign "CtrlAltDel" posted is obsolete. The new style is this:

"You know, you never have a guaranteed spot until you have a spot guaranteed."
—Olaf Kolzig, as quoted in the Washington Times on March 28, 2003,
commenting on the Capitals clinching a playoff spot.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"
—Kolzig, to the same reporter a few seconds later.

There's one one the Dulles Access Road, as you may know. Presumably it's there to greet out-of-state and international visitors, but I always wondered what about people who fly from say Norfolk/Newport News to IAD, an intra-state flight (not that any necessarily exist).

Is that really something to worry about...upsetting people that flew within the state?

When he was Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney ordered the governor and lieutenant governor's names to be removed from welcome signs.  The signs remain nameless to this day.

That's actually state law now, after Rod Blagojevich got bounced out of the governor's mansion (which he never occupied).

I wish we could get a state law passed in Florida that allows our signs to be governor free.

In fact it was until recently when that bald headed idiot, who is lucky to get into our State House, as he had no political experience before ever!  He is even not a true Republican which he bears their party name for himself even though Sean Hannity wipes this guy's ass in his radio and TV shows despite he hates John McCain for also being a name only Republican due to his true conservative values.

Anyway, bad man or woman or not, Governor's names should not be on the signs period.
