Because spelling was standardized, at least to some extent, before the Great Vowel Shift.  In Middle English, they were probably all three pronounced as loh-veh and moh-veh and cloh-veh.  Maybe one or the other had a slightly different vowel sound to the others, but not by much.

Because English is riddled with inconsistencies -- half the language follows rules, the other half is a collection of historical leftovers.

'Love' comes from Old English, 'move' from French, and 'clove' from Germanic roots. Different origins, different vowel histories. English is basically a linguistic interchange with no signage standards.

Then, of course, there is no "default language" setting within the Audible website, so if I am searching for a book, I need to make sure English is selected to reduce the number of matches.

I don't know that this necessarily "bothers" me, but it seems to fit better in this thread than it does in "random thoughts." The news last night mentioned the use of AI and other "deepfake" software to create nude images of women. I found myself wondering what the point of doing that is. If you've never seen the woman in question in the nude, either in person or through a photo, you have no way of knowing whether the artificial image is at all accurate. From a practical standpoint, it's just giving you an imagined photo to look at instead of forcing you to imagine in your mind what you would see.

I suppose the answer is that one should never underestimate how desperate some people are to look at whatever sort of porn or porn-like materials they can get.

(I guess all of the same would be equally true if a woman used the software to generate nude photos of a man, but you don't hear the news reporting on that sort of thing.)

A friend of mine from church is getting ready to sell a work van.  It's a combo passenger/cargo van, and he and his helper were trying to figure out how to get the seats back in.  After racking their brains, he finally asked ChatGPT for help.  Instantly, ChatGPT returned with not only instructions, but a diagram.  After looking at the diagram, they realized they were doing things entirely backward.  Problem solved!  Got the seats installed lickety-split.

I've thought the same thing myself. But the reality is that the incel men who are desperate enough for this probably never have seen a real woman nude to know bodies all look different under the clothes, or they just assume all women look the same without clothes as the porn personalities they watch

Yeah, but the answer came from actual humans' problem solving abilities and presentation, while the WhatEverBot just scooped it up and presented it. (AgenticSteal?)

I will say it's sometimes good at putting two and two together from a simple search, to the point where if I didn't know anything about the subject matter, I'd get to to speed. But I just use the Google search and haven't dallied around with the others more than once or twice because it's unwieldy unless I really need deep researching.

I wonder if the whole concept of SEO now pivots to buying off these companies to make sure it blurts out a nice answer. It tends towards sycophantic answers and walks a tightrope at times, and of course there's hundreds and thousands of specific cases where it just gets things wrong. Hey, pencils have erasers.

I guess I assume the reason men, or high school boys, do this is to humiliate the female (maybe after a breakup).  If the face is recognizable, as long as the body looks like it could reasonably be what's below that face, post the fake photo using a real photo of the face wherever and say "Hey everybody, look at this slut, she let me take nude pictures of her."

Yeah, I wouldn't assume that the reason for doing it has anything to do with being "accurate".  Whether it's something to wank to or something with which to shame or humiliate the other person, accuracy is unnecessary in either case.

Perhaps.  As someone who has had to look for automotive diagrams online before, it's a lot easier if you already know where to look, but kind of like a needle in a haystack otherwise.  But really, he just said into his phone something like, "I'm trying to install the seats in a 20__ ______ van and can't figure it out,  Please help".  And beep-beep-boop, no googling required.

Before AI existed, the centerfold photos in those dirty magazines were usually modified by "air brushing". Same thing, no telling what the person actually looks like.

That and for some people, it's a power/control thing. If a woman won't send you the nude pictures you want (or you don't even know the woman), make AI ones, and now you have nudes even though she told you no.

It is always nice when the AI emits output that coincidentally happens to be right.

A fun thing to do is to ask it a question about the details of minor highway, especially one containing a plausible misconception a non-roadgeek might have, and then watch it FritzOwl an answer to the question instead of telling you it doesn't know or that your question is based on a faulty premise.
