He would have hated it. There were no on-screen graphics for most of the game. When the game was close at the end, they would put a camera shot of the in-arena scoreboard in a picture in picture in one corner of the screen. As you can see, sometimes this bug got in the way of the action.

When your wife asks you to go through the drive-thru because she's hungry. You order a meal and she gets one little thing.  She immediately starts in on the fries you got as part of the meal, and "jokes" that she's going to eat them all.  By the time she gives you the cup, they're almost all gone.

Well, it wasn't the first time she did something like this; I finally put my foot down this time.

She also has no qualms about going in to a store and coming out with (on average) $300 worth of stuff for her, while have to almost beg for $40 for a haircut.

This August, we will have been married for twenty-two years.

On the much lighter side:

Since we're both working, and need a second car again, we drove up to the far side of Philadelphia today to look at a 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage.  It's a little banged up, but the resulting lower price makes it affordable for us.  We'll pick it up Tuesday.

We have never had a car before (except for a few rentals over the years) where the electronics are anywhere nearly this sophisticated.  Now I'll have to figure out how to program everything.

All I was saying is, if you're going to have as much information on the screen as there is nowadays, why not include other game info as well? It's like a half-baked evolution from the larger lack of info there was in the old days. It's not that hard to display a call indicator for 5 seconds, which they commonly do (in the NBA, for example) whenever an official review or coach's challenge occurs.

July 4 falls on a Saturday this year.  Normally that isn't a big deal, but this year I'm not visiting family on that holiday so I'll be local.  I had been hoping to treat it largely as a normal Saturday, but after checking last night, the place where I get my weekly pizza/wings order will be closed for the holiday.  Sine my order is available at very few places (I get a 10'' pepperoni pizza and 6 chicken wings - most places start their wing orders at 10 and their pizza orders at 12'' or 14'' - intended for a single person go get them, they are not).  Not to mention that I'm not sure with how I'd even begin to find a place that's open this far out - Google Maps won't begin listing the holiday hours for another week, and many places won't update their hours until even closer if it all.

Which leaves me with a question of what to do in place.  If I'm going to miss my usual pizza/wings/movie routine, I'd rather it be for something outside of my apartment.  But what?  I don't have anyone to go and do anything with, and trying to figure out logistics for seeing, say, the Capitol fireworks display, staking out a spot, and waiting just doesn't appeal if I'm on my own and have nothing but my phone to relive boredom.  Plus I don't have a lawn chair or anything to sit in.  The local boat tour company has a ride that night... but they play oldies music during it, which isn't exactly my jam (though I should find out what exactly they mean by oldies; I would assume 1940s/50s, but if it's newer, that would be more appealing).  There just aren't good way to enjoy holidays on your own.

I always enjoyed going to the Steamboat Festival in Waterford, which may not be on the 4th, but love the fireworks over the river (where Albany should shoot them off from...absolutely hate the Albany fireworks from the Plaza...).  Should be a couple of our common friends in Waterford, if only manning booths.

Sometimes life needs a few broken routines; when you can't control everything, you find out what you're made of. (For example, I'm made of ending sentences on prepositions.)

Re: Oldies - somewhere just after the turn of the millennium, 1950s music was largely relegated out of many oldies/classics stations and '70s took its place. And now I hear songs from the '80s on those same stations and I'm not ready for that toe-in-the-grave moment of nineties music eventually and inexorably getting into the mix. It's already there in the classic rock stations...

I'm fine with July 4th falling on a Saturday; the neighborhood fireworks going off at 1-2am won't bother me so much when trying to catch an early flight the next morning. And honestly, it's one of those anniversaries people have waited for, so it sure as heck beats a Monday.

It doesn't matter to me which day it falls on because my neighbors seem to want to set fireworks off every day for the preceding three weeks.

I am indifferent to whether July 4 falls on Saturday or Sunday, but I like it when it falls on either of them because it means I will get Friday or Monday, respectively, as the holiday. My office has adopted a somewhat ad hoc approach to the new June 19 holiday. Last year, June 19 fell on Thursday and July 4 fell on Friday, so we decided to work June 19 and then take July 3 off instead to get a four-day weekend. This year, with June 19 on Friday and July 4 on Saturday, we observed June 19 to get two three-day weekends. Presumably we will do the same next year (with the holidays observed on Friday, June 18, and Monday, July 5). I suppose in 2028 we might skip June 19 in favor of a four-day weekend again with July 4 falling on Tuesday.

I can't stand that either.  The radio "suits" and "bean-counters" say that the people who regularly listened to 50's and 60's music are 65+ years old nowadays.

Sure, there may be some 50s/60s sappy or lesser-known songs by familiar artists that should fall through the cracks, but many should still be played.

How many younger demographics go to see Graceland and learn more about Elvis? Or how many people go to concerts to hear artists or tribute bands play songs that were hits before they were born?

How often do you hear 50's or 60's music not played on the RADIO, but are heard in retail stores, or are used in movies or TV ads?

Obviously, there is still some sort of interest in that era of music.

Radio is like a theme park that decides to remove perfectly good rides because the people who first rode them are too old to ride them now...so despite all the younger people waiting in lines for those very rides, people shouldn't be exposed to them anymore because they are too old.

Yeah, they may cost more to maintain, but you can only have so many spinny, super-tall, super-fast "puke-able" rides before you start losing visitors to your park who will go to their local fairs or festivals for the simpler rides to get their fix.

A minor thing that bothers me is people who don't like it when you wear shoes inside. Fretting about wearing shoes in the house was not a thing in my family when I was growing up (unless your shoes were caked with mud or you'd stepped in dog dung and hadn't gotten all of it off the soles). I don't get people who freak out when you don't take your shoes off when you enter the house.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

All I can say is that I find a stark contrast in level of cleanliness between those who wear shoes both outside and inside of the house versus those that at least change shoes when they come in, if not take off their shoes totally.  Going into homes where people where their shoes both indoors and outdoors is like going into a dirt-floor hut at times.

To me, it depends on the carpet.  If someone has white carpet, then I totally understand their being Shoe Nazis about it.  But, if they have brown carpet, then it's a bit more ridiculous to make a fuss.

I always take mine off on entry, unless my arms are full with stuff for the kitchen. Then they come off a few minutes later.

Shoes can scratch the hardwood floors as well.

I don't know the reasoning, but I'll point out that the Federal Reserve also observes holidays that way.  If your payday at work is on Fridays and July 3rd this year is a regularly scheduled payday, there is no need for your employer to change it if you are paid via direct deposit because funds will settle that day as usual.  But July 4th falls on Sunday next year, and if you are paid on Mondays then your employer will have to adjust because no Federal Reserve activity will happen on July 5th.

Presumably the former. Normally the practice for government agencies is that people who don't normally work on Saturday get Friday off, but people who do work Saturday (including the post office) get Saturday.

Whereas last week, I got paid on Thursday for that same reason, and next week I'll be paid on the normal Friday. I note the banks generally do not close on Friday fur a Saturday holiday—they're normally open Saturday, so they observe a Saturday holiday on the actual day.
