What does your avatar mean?

I don't see an existing thread on this, but if there is, then I'd like to have this post merged with the old thread.
Recent discussion in the -Minor things that bother you- thread about users' avatars has inspired me to start a dedicated thread about avatars. For those of you who have avatars, what does your avatar mean, and why did you pick it?

Anyone who has already posted about their avatar, please feel free to quote it here as well.

My avatar is a WV 68 shield from Wikimedia Commons with the digits changed to Series C. It is not to spec but I feel that the digits look better in the shield. When traveling, I also like to change mine to a local route in the area.

US-91 was the old designation for this local street called Las Vegas Boulevard. Back in the fifties some guys built a few hotels along it and things seemed to go pretty well. I guess someone should check on them and see how they're doing now that I-15 is a thing and US-91 isn't. Freeway bypasses tend to not be good for those hotel strips every small town on a US route tend to have, after all.

My avatar is a photo of one of the few Alaska route 11 markers in the wild, this one north of the Arctic Circle at mile 305 (Slope Mountain Camp turnoff). The photo was edited to conform to forum guidelines, and add a one pixel wide black border.

The Dalton Highway was the subject of one of my first ventures in web design, later expanded to three pages and moved to my Alaska Roads site.

Mine is a video a friend of mine filmed at London Heathrow on September 7, 2003, of British Airways flight 001, flown that day by Concorde G-BOAD, departing for New York. I'm in the video, but you can't see me—I was sitting in Seat 20D. The flight arrived at New York JFK an hour and 39 minutes before it left London (wheels up at 18:45, wheels down at 17:06).

NY-52 is the second closest state route to me, and one I have spent a lot of time on. I changed the colors because I think it looks nicer than plain black/white.

The nearest numbered route to my house is US 50, but that doesn't seem specific enough as it locates me anywhere between West Sacramento and Ocean City.

I-87 and I-90 are the two routes that form the Thruway mainline and the two 2dis that serve the Capital District.

Have you revisited that airplane?  It looks like you can, at the Intrepid Museum at Pier 86 on the Hudson River, perhaps even with the opportunity to walk past 20D.

Yes, although when I went the rear cabin (where 20D is) was closed off behind a clear plastic barrier. Don't know whether that's still the case.

Duh. What does that have to do with any of the comments made above? You can still go inside most of them at museums, with a few exceptions (can't go inside F-BVFA at the Smithsonian, for example). You can go inside G-BOAD, the one seen in my avatar. Last time I was at the Intrepid was part of a group tour and we had a special guest, BA Captain Les Scott, who flew that aircraft from JFK to Heathrow in 2 hours, 52 minutes, 59 seconds in 1996. Because he was there, they opened up the cockpit and allowed us to go in there one at a time.

Mine represents the one 3di that I-95 is missing from a complete set of children in Maryland, as well as the route that would dethrone I-990 as the highest-numbered interstate if it actually existed.

I'm not too into fictional, but the couple easy redesignations that would create an I-995 in MD:

-I-97
-I-83/JFX inside I-695 (with I-83 continuing around I-695 and taking over I-97)
-I-895 spur (to MD 2/I-97)

While this wouldn't finish off MD's set of x95's, redesignating DC's 3rd Street Tunnel to I-995 instead of the currently-proposed I-195 (while I-395 takes over I-695) would seem appropriate since it would result in the highest-numbered interstate being closest to the Capitol.

Minnesota TH 61 is my favorite/most important highway in my life. I no longer live in the Twin Ports, but there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be than up near Grand Marais, MN.

That's no longer "currently proposed." DC dropped the plan a few years ago.

Like many of you, my avatar is the numbered highway (stuff on Travel Mapping, so no county roads) closest to my primary residence. Right now, that highway happens to be US 287. But it's the 1960s shield, because I think that it's pretty.

As a very young roadgeek when coming back to Grand Forks from visiting family in central ND, my dad would occasionally indulge my desire to take the road less travelled. So sometimes instead of taking US 2 the whole way back home we'd take various state and county roads including ND 53, which I really enjoyed because it went through some pretty tiny towns and clipped the corner of Sheridan County. Years later in 2021, my very first 'joyride' without a parent along started off with a full clinch of the highway from Max to Balfour.

At the time I joined, I-97 was disliked by many for being the shortest 2di, and the subject of some zany plots to replace it with I-995 or a re-routed I-83 or I-70.

Hey, some 2di has to be the shortest.  May as well be I-97.  So choosing I-97 as my avatar is my way of trolling those people   (And it's near where I live)
