Quote from: roadman65 on April 22, 2025, 07:55:04 PMWhy is the Turnpike Mainline construction at the US 422 and Gulph Road crossing near King of Prussia taking so long?

If you go to street view it started in 2021 and the last image 6 months ago still showing the bridge being worked on.

If you go to the PTC Major design and construction page for the MP 224-226 project, you will see a final seasonal update posted that states that all 6 lanes opened in October 2024, and that the project is substantially complete.

FTFY, there still seems to be work going on despite 6 lanes being open to traffic.

Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

I believe this is at the Ft. Littleton interchange (180) looking eastbound. https://maps.app.goo.gl/uBhkP8fuEKYjLxtt9
I don't need a GPS.  I AM the GPS! (for family and friends)

The trees at the gore point in the old photo are gone, but the ones near the south end of the trumpet bridge/inside the loop ramp look to be the same trees there in GSV, just older and bigger now

Does the PTC practice "transponder discrimination"?  I am planning on driving parts of PA Turnpike 43 and PA Turnpike 576 on Wednesday traveling between the Hampton Roads area and New Philadelphia, OH, and I have an NC Quick Pass.  Would be nice to not be charged the more expensive toll-by-plate rate as Maryland likes to do on their toll facilities to those not using a Maryland EZPass.

Not at the moment, but it has been discussed before in the legislature.

They'd better not, the Turnpike is expensive enough as-is.

The 2026 capital improvement plan is out. Better than last year, but still not great.

It appears that the conversion to all-electronic tolling is the Turnpike Commission's top priority right now, because I see a bunch of major reconstruction projects getting started after the conversion.

I'm glad to see that random four-lane segment north of Pittsburgh (MM38-MM40) will get some attention soon. Eventually, everything from I-79 to I-70 will be six lanes.

ARMOURERERIC

I will be curious to see if that involves a reconfigured PA 8 interchange being that is become overpowered and very tight and substandard.

Probably. PA 8 is a major route north of Pittsburgh, and the northern suburbs are growing rapidly. I also wonder what's in store for the I-376/U.S. 22 interchange. I get the hunch that it will be redesigned too.

On a related note, for the sake of continuity and enhancing Pittsburgh's stature somewhere on this Interstate Highway System, instead of having a "Pittsburgh" interchange and a "Cranberry" interchange, since plenty of people going to Pittsburgh use the latter interchange and not the former, why not call the Pittsburgh interchange "Pittsburgh East," and the Cranberry interchange "Pittsburgh North" or "Pittsburgh West"?

It's probably just easier to remove Pittsburgh as an exit name altogether (see also Philadelphia) and rename exit 57 to "Monroeville." Or if they're desperate for money, make it the "Heinz 57 Exit."

If it does, I would expect it to be something that introduces traffic signals on PA 8 like a conversion to a folded diamond or some sort of parclo. Land is developed right up to the PTC right-of-way here and there is a large hill on the northeast side of the interchange. Something that expands outside of the current footprint is probably not financially feasible.

Getting rid of the toll plaza will provide additional room for weaving, and a replacement PA 8 bridge over the mainline could allow for a longer merge lane southbound. Those changes would significantly improve the ramp within the existing configuration.

Why not get rid of those names altogether now that paper tickets have gone away?

ARMOURERERIC

A new line item has been added to the PA Turnpike design and construction page, MP 24-26.  Like most of these items, there is no set time for the work to occur, but this would wrap up Butler County PA and, per request of PennDOT, will provide a rebuilt mainline bridge to accommodate  a widened to 4 lane Rochester Rd, this may be an indicator that way out in the future that the mainline  from PA 18 to US 19 is just starting to show up on the PTC radar.

What about the following?

Clarks Summit used to be called "Scranton".

Bensalem used to be called "Philadelphia" (it's the closest interchange to the Philadelphia County line).

Levittown/Bristol used to be called "Delaware Valley".
