Part one of today's jog to the eastern terminus of US 70 in Atlantic, NC, complete with slightly better photography skills on a real camera.

Great stuff. Let me know if you go on any more road trips, I wouldn't mind tagging along if I'm free.

So how's your camera situation now, any better?

Well, the reason the camera died was because I bought it, took it out of the box, and immediately started taking pictures and video with it.

Straight out of the box? Minimal charge and no SD or Micro SD card? My 14 MP Samsung camera doesn't seem to hold a charge very well. It charges with either an AC or a USB outlet.

Sanctimoniously

I bought an SD card to go with it. The battery had a little less than one quarter charger straight out of the box, and it was surprisingly good, surviving about a dozen pictures and ten and a half minutes of 1080p video recording before fizzling out.

I bring a power inverter and the camera wall charger on long trips for instances where I run out of battery power. Was almost a necessity on the point and shoots running on Double A batteries.

Sanctimoniously

Normally I have my camera batteries fully charged before leaving on trips. All of the trips I've taken so far are day trips, so it works well enough.

Yes, drifting OT, but my Canon can take over 1,000 photos on a single charge (using AA rechargeables), and I've been able to record 10 minutes+ of video with low battery warning.

Necrobump from hell, but I actually have some new activity.

http://elricofcrapnibone.blogspot.com/2012/12/photo-overload-december-15-2012.html

The Nikon D3000 is one of two cameras I use for road photography. Outside of the auto-focus being wonky on mine (I use manual focus instead), it works great.

Part Two. . .of many, where I discover that it's really difficult to take decent pictures on pavement that's old enough to start collecting Social Security.

It worked great for me. Once I switched to my telephoto lens, I had generally better results.

You're so far ahead of me getting blog entries done for this trip.

It's odd, because you're actually going through and pre-organizing all your photos and commentary. I'm just going like, "Okay, where did I end the last one?" and go on inserting photos and commentary until I get to the third or fourth unique route or whenever I get tired of waiting for photos to upload.

Speaking of which, Parts Four and Five are now available for perusal.

I am thoroughly enjoying yours and Flashing Lights' excellent photos reminding me of what I used to see 20 years ago (minus the Clearview, the semi-horrendous signage, and the final piece of the Western Freeway).  Thank you!

Thank you for the compliments.

Part Seven is now up. Eventually, we will be done with this. Also, Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Heh, yeah. After Christmas my work schedule is much more favorable, so I should be able to finish my entries before I take my next trip.
