Digital Billboards

I'm just wondering if digital billboards have made it to your area and what you may think of them.

Alex

Seen them all over the country with inane crap like "average wait time at the ER", "local weather" or "news headlines" in between local ads. From Mobile to Amarillo, we saw digital billboards showing the same "wanted" graphic for a guy that was in the news in early May for instance. My thoughts are that they are too bright and otherwise annoying like conventional billboards.

agentsteel53

nope, nothing annoying about a digital billboard flashing red and blue behind you.

Yep, got a few of them in north Jackson.

Takumi

Yep, I've seen a few around here. I don't particularly care for them, either.

Olive Garden must be stopped.  I must stop them.

Don't @ me. Seriously.

Chris

They are particularly annoying at night. They light up like a christmas tree.

Ft Smith (AR) has them: very annoying.

I hate them too.  Like Jake says, they look like cop lights.  And they're blinding at night.  I also hate bright red lights like the CMA sign between Potter and Hatfield, in Arkansas.  Every time I see it I think there has been an accident.  They're light pollution.

I'm also not a fan of traditional billboards.  US 65 between Springfield and Branson is a very scenic drive, but is ruined by all the billboards that appear what seems like every 50 feet.  It's truly disgusting.  Missouri should just ban billboards.

There's several digital billboards along 101 on the Peninsula. They sure are bright at night!

yes there's some amusement park near San Tomas Expwy (called something obnoxious like Americaland) which has an extra-bright one that gave me no end to consternation on my commute home after a late night working.

That one by Great America doesn't seem that bright to me, the one near Whipple does.

There should be light pollution regulations along highways and heavy fines for violators. These need to be toned down 75% at night.

They don't bother me. Capitalism FTW.

You'd take it up the hoo how if it benefited the very rich.

BigMattFromTexas

We got them all over Angelo.. Our city council at one point was planning on making a city ordinance (like the sign height ordinance here) for these signs and all those digital marquee things that they'd have to put a way to dim them at night. Not much has really been done.
During the day I really don't mind them..

Yeah, there are several in Cincinnati. I've seen them in a few other places.

Someone else said all billboards should be banned. I don't believe in unnecessarily restricting the rights of property owners to use their land as they see fit. If someone owns a piece of property adjacent to a highway -- even an interstate, and that means you, Lady Bird Johnson -- they ought to be able to lease out advertising space to make a few extra bucks. I live at a reasonably busy intersection in my county, with road frontage on both highways, and I routinely let political candidates with whom I'm friends put up signs. Why shouldn't I charge them and let any candidate who wants to pay me put up a sign?

Would you be okay with me paying your neighbor ten dollars to put up signs reading "FUCK" in 24" tall letters? What if they said "H.B. ELKINS IS A DORK"? What if it was a sign with a picture of a naked woman on it? What if it was a sign with Carl Rogers's face on it?

But you value money over scenic beauty.  Some things are priceless.  That drive's natural beauty would be a treasure if it weren't for those fucking billboards.  But because of those like you, the almighty dollar wins again.

Or what if his next door neighbor had a sign in his yard that said "ATHEIST?"  I'm sure Mr. Faux Christian would have a problem with that.
