New Zealand's Ninety Mile Beach is 55 miles long.
It's Ninety Kilometer Beach, then
I thought that instantly when Jezza mentioned it several months ago...*

The popular theory is
a) horse does 30 miles/day
b) beach took 3 days
therefore
c) beach 90 miles long
--
d) horse walks slower in sand
e) silly people didn't realise that
f) beach pretends to be longer than it is

*another random, impulsive from-the-hip fact is that Sir Ben Ainslie's old work hung a picture of me in a bright yellow wetsuit and the rest of my group of 6/7 next to one of him in Atlanta - I still don't understand why (OK, there's a James Bond look-a-like and Aston Martin also in the picture and it was a planned photo op, but that still doesn't answer wtf it was all about), or why it was hung there for several years after they took it.

33 tropical cyclones have formed in the Central Pacific (140º W to the dateline) since 1982. They all were given the following Hawaiian names:
Akoni, Ema, Hana, Iwa, Keli, Lala, Moke, Oka, Peke, Uleki, Wila,
Aka, Ekeka, Hali, Iniki, Keoni, Li, Mele, Nona, Oliwa, Paka, Upana, Wene,
Alika, Ele, Huko, Ioke, Kika, Lana, Maka, Neki and Omeka.

As of today, there is another storm to add to the list: Tropical Storm Pewa, designated at 1500 UTC by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.

Even with the rerouting of I-85 through Greensboro, the exit #'s on I-85 and I-40 still differ by 96 (formerly Exit 219 on I-40 was at the same point as Exit 123 off I-85, while Exit 259 off I-40 was at the same point as Exit 163 off I-85...only difference of course is that Exit 227 off I-40 in Greensboro is now where Exit 131 off I-85 is also located, since Exit 219 off I-40W is what used to be Exit 123 off I-85 when I-85 ran through Death Valley).

Those just don't sound as good as Ninety Mile Beach. Even Fifty Five Mile Beach doesn't sound right.

However, every human that has ever lived has had that free trip around the sun, even the ones that are not always on Earth.

NCDOT sort of "stretched" the milemarkers on the I-85 Greensboro bypass so that the exit numbers beyond each end would not have to be changed.  I believe that it is a 1 1/2-2 mile difference between the old I-85 and the new I-85.

There were more instances of 50 home run seasons between 1995-2010 (24) then there was between 1920-1990 (18).  Between 1961, when Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle hit 61 and 54 HRs respectively, and 1995, when Albert Belle hit 50 HRs, there were only three occurrences of 50 HR seasons (Willie Mays, 1965-52, George Foster, 1977-52, and Cecil Fielder, 1990-51).

Okay, now figure out how many total at-bats there were in each year in MLB.  More teams, more players, more at bats = more home runs.
