State Route 191

California 191 is an 11.4-mile, north-south highway that connects California 70 in Oroville with Pearson Road in Paradise, fully located within Butte County. The primary purpose of California 191 is to provide a state route connection between Paradise and the rest of the state highway system.
Table Mountain Boulevard (Old SR 70) ties into the intersection joining SR 70 with the northbound beginning of SR 191 from the south. SR 70 meets SR 191 northeast of SR 149, which west to SR 149 connects Oroville to Chico.

This traffic signal, which was newly installed upon the relocation of California 70 due to the Wicks Corner Interchange project, is found at the north end of Table Mountain Boulevard (Old California 70) at the point where it meets California 70. Table Mountain Boulevard north transitions directly onto California 191 north.

This initial segment of California 191 was realigned as a result of the Wicks Corner Interchange (California 70-149) project.

Soon thereafter, California 191 returns to its original alignment and proceeds north on a rural segment of two-lane state route. Storm clouds gathered on the horizon on this late spring day as California 191 passes through a pastoral, rural setting.

Northbound California 191 approaches and meets Durham-Pentz Road. Turn left on Durham Pentz Road west to Chico (via California 99 north at Exit 376) and Durham. Turn right on Durham Pentz Road to Pentz and Quincy via California 70 east. A four-way stop governs this intersection. To Butte College, turn left on Durham Pentz Road or continue north on California 191 to Butte Campus Drive (second left).

Continuing north toward Paradise over the next several miles, California 191 sees more rolling terrain in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
05/24/08
Northbound California 191 (Clark Road) enters the town of Paradise. Paradise had a population of 26,218 as of the 2010 Census and incorporated as a town on November 27, 1979. It sits at an elevation of 2,050 feet.

The state route ends at the intersection with Pearson Road as shown at this signalized intersection. Southbound California 191 (Clark Road) approaches the four-way stop intersection with Durham-Pentz Road. Turn left (east) to Pentz and right (west) to California 99 and Durham.
05/24/08
California 191 sees this final straight stretch before reaching the junction with California 70.
05/24/08
The final mile of California 191 was realigned as a result of the Wicks Corner Interchange (California 70-149). With this change, the intersection between California 70 and California 149 is now governed by a traffic signal, and traffic may proceed south through the intersection onto Table Mountain Boulevard (old California 70).
05/24/08
Southbound California 191 reaches its southern terminus at the intersection with California 70. A temporary sign was in place to direct motorists to California 70 east to Quincy and south to Oroville (shown here as straight ahead, but now correctly showing a right turn with the opening of the Wicks Corner Interchange). No end shield is posted for the southern terminus of California 191.
