Sherman Avenue doubles as Bay County Road 2337 north from U.S. 98 Business (5th Street) in Panama City. Passing through Cedar Grove, the 2.608 mile long route angles northeast from U.S. 98 (15th Street) to merge with Florida 389 at north Springfield.
Historically, Sherman Avenue between 11th Street (CR 28 / old Florida Secondary 736) and Florida 389 was designated as Florida Secondary 389A. Sherman Avenue two blocks south from U.S. 98 Business (5th Street) to 3rd Street east represented the westernmost segment of Florida 22.
Segment 8 of the U.S. 231 widening project in the Panama City area includes changes along SR 389 (East Avenue) at Sherman Avenue. East Avenue will be expanded from two to four lanes and CR 2337 will be realigned to intersect SR 389 perpendicularly. The adjustment at Sherman Avenue will increase the distance of the SR 389 intersections with CR 2337 south and adjacent Sherman Lane west.
