Similar to other Osceola County Roads, CR 523 is assigned to a number of branches, mostly unsigned. The main leg follows Canoe Creek Road, from U.S. 441 at Kenansville north to U.S. 192/441 (3rd Street) along Vermont Street in the city of St. Cloud. This section is sporadically signed.
The remaining CR 523 sections are unsigned routes. They include 2.23 miles of Old Canoe Creek Road running northwest from CR 523 on Canoe Creek Road to unsigned CR 525 along Kissimmee Park road in St. Cloud. CR 523 also extends north from U.S. 192/441 on Vermont Street through the St. Cloud street grid to E Lakeshore Boulevard, where the route partitions. E Lakeshore Boulevard and Rummell Road east from Vermont Street lead CR 523, 3.35 miles to CR 15 (Narcoosee Road). 4.9 miles in length, the westernmost leg of CR 523 lines Lakeshore Boulevard northwest to Partin Settlement Road outside the St. Cloud city limits, and Partin Settlement Road west to Neptune Road (CR 525).
