State Route 1D

Delaware State Route 1D

Delaware State Route 1D forms a suburban loop southeast from SR 23 (Beaver Dam Road) and Belltown to Midway by way of Plantation Road and SR 24 (John J. Williams Highway).1 SR 1D was designated in 1995 to provide an alternate route to circumvent commercial development along SR 1.1

SR 1A and SR 1B are located to the southeast at Rehoboth Beach. There is no SR 1C, though the designation may be reserved for a future route.2 SR 1D formerly overlapped with SR 24 Alternate along Plantation Road. Signs for SR 24 Alt were still posted along Plantation Road as of January 2017.

The Plantation Road Improvements, Robinsonville Road to US 9 (Phase 1) project underway from Fall 2022 to Spring 2025, reconfigured the north end of SR 1D and SR 23. Both routes were realigned into a newly constructed roundabout with Belltown Road and a relocation of Salt Marsh Boulevard. Belltown Road links the two state routes with nearby U.S. 9/SR 404 and SR 1 (Coastal Highway).
