Florida State Road 82 is a 29.90 mile highway linking Downtown Fort Myers with Lehigh Acres and Immokalee (via SR 29). Within the Fort Myers area SR 82 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard (formerly Anderson Avenue).

A $55 million project underway from September 2017 to the end of Summer 2019 Winter 2020 expanded SR 82 southeast from CR 884 (Lee Boulevard) to Shawnee Road to six overall lanes. The 4.5 mile section was built with a five foot sidewalk on the north side and a 10 foot multi use path to the south. A Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) was also constructed at Daniels Parkway (CR 876) west and Gunnery Road north.1
Further expansion of State Road 82 commenced in Summer 2018 from Alabama Road east 6.9 miles to the Hendry County line. Running through the end of 2020, the $57 million project rebuilds the two lane roadway into a four lane arterial with a 54 foot wide median, bike lakes, a five foot sidewalk and ten foot multi-use path.2
