Florida State Road 540 travels wholly within Polk County. The 10.49 mile long western branch links U.S. 98 and southeast Lakeland at Eaton Park with U.S. 17 at Winter Haven and Eagle Lake. Serving the Legoland theme park, the eastern section follows Cypress Gardens Boulevard across Winter Haven, from U.S. 17 to U.S. 27 on the north side of Lake Wales.
Florida State Road 540 Guides
A two lane portion of SR 540 parallels Polk Parkway (SR 570) to the south through Circle B Bar Reserve and Lake Hancock. The 3.54 mile long segment concludes at ramps with the toll bypass around Lakeland. Construction further east along SR 540 got underway in March 2023 on the first section of Central Polk Parkway (SR 570B).
A 1.377 mile section of SR 540 along Cypress Gardens Boulevard in Winter Haven was realigned. The new course included improvements to the geometry on the S-curves around Lake Roy and a new bridge across Lake Ina. SR 540 travels 7.18 miles along Cypress Gardens Boulevard. The route previously extended another 2.29 miles east of U.S. 27 along Waverly Road to SR 17 at the Dundee city line.
Two sections of CR 540 are also designated in Polk County. The eastern branch extends 2.29 miles from SR 540 at U.S. 27 to Waverly and SR 17 (Scenic Highway). A separate segment lines Clubhouse Road for 2.68 miles between CR 37B (Lakeland Highlands Road) south of Lakeland and U.S. 98 (Bartow Avenue) at Highland City.
