Interstate 64 East - Mount Vernon to Indiana


Passing under the stacked portion of Exit 92: Interstate 57 north and the ramp from I-64 west to I-57 south. Interstate 57 was completed through Mt. Vernon by 1968. Opening of Interstate 64 through Jefferson County came later by 1974.

Six interchanges remain along Interstate 64 east between I-57 and the Wabash River, the first joining the freeway with IL 37 (10th Street / Benton Road) in one mile.

IL 37 stretches 165 miles north from Urbandale to Marion, Benton, Mt. Vernon, Salem and Effingham. The state route was vastly replaced by Interstate 57 as the main route through southern Illinois.

IL 37 follows 10th Street north throughout Mount Vernon. Southward the state route provides an alternate to I-57 through Bonnie, Ina and Benton.

Shields posted for IL 37 within the folded diamond interchange of Exit 80. Bonnie is a five mile drive to the south while the northbound state route enters the city limits of Mt. Vernon nearby.
