Interstate 95 North - Hardeeville to Ridgeland

Interstate 95

Construction broke ground on August 15, 2025 on the I-95 Widening and Improvements Project in Jasper County. Work through Fall 2030 replaces the four lane crossing over the Savannah River and expands the first ten miles of I-95 in South Carolina to six lanes (SCDOT, 2025). Additionally the diamond interchange joining I-95 with U.S. 278 at Exit 8 will be rebuilt as a DDI. A second DDI (Exit 3) is proposed with Purrysburg Road.

Initial design work is underway through Spring 2026 for additional expansion of I-95 between Exit 8 / U.S. 278 and Exit 21 / S.C. 336. Anticipated construction is from Fall 2027 to Fall 2031. Proposed improvements include removing the trumpet interchange at Exit 18 and building a new dumbbell or parclo interchange with a relocation of Bees Creek Road (Rd 13).

Long range expansion of Interstate 95 between Exits 22 and 33 may take place with construction from Summer 2028 to Summer 2032. Proposed work includes replacing the trumpet interchanges at both exits.
