Interstate 787
Interstate 787 straddles the Hudson River through Albany, Menands and Watervliet. The freeway spurs north from the New York Thruway (I-87) to U.S. 4 in the city of Troy. Multi level interchanges join the four to six lane freeway with U.S. 9/20 at Downtown Albany and I-90 west of Rensselaer.

NY 787 extends 2.3 miles north to NY 32 at Mohawk Street in Cohoes from the exchange joining I-787 with NY 7 at Green Island. A 0.58 mile long freeway spur, the I-787 Exit 1 Connector (Route 912S) connects the freeway with U.S. 9W and Hoffman Avenue in south Albany.
Interstate 787 initially spurred east from the New York Thruway to NY 32 at Church Street in Albany.
New York State Public Works Department highway plans from the 1950s listed what would later become Interstate 787 as "The Riverfront Route". It was proposed to connect with the Northern Expressway, an unbuilt highway near the Circle Stack Interchange near Downtown Albany. Plans for the south end with the New York Thruway at the Downtown Albany Interchange were finalized in 1954.1

An I-787 trailblazer was previously posted on the Herrick Street viaduct westbound in Rensselaer. Herrick Street connects East Street and the Rensselaer transit station with Broadway.

Broadway heads south from Herrick Street to NY 151 (3rd Avenue) east and a loop ramp onto the Dunn Memorial Bridge (U.S. 9/20) west to Albany.

Broadway runs alongside the flyovers joining U.S. 9/20 with the Dunn Memorial Bridge in Rensselaer. Removed by 2017, An I-787 trailblazer at the ramp end from U.S. 9/20 east to Broadway directed motorists south to the entrance ramp at 3rd Street.

Another removed I-787 shield was posted along Broadway south ahead of Mill Creek and NY 151 (3rd Avenue) at the ramp for U.S. 9/20 west.

The Dunn Memorial Bridge leads U.S. 9 north / U.S. 20 west across the Hudson Rive directly into the Circle Stack Interchange with Interstate 787.

NY 151 ends at Broadway and the Dunn Memorial Bridge. The state route runs 8.21 miles southeast across the town of East Greenbush to NY 150.
