Route 273

Maryland Route 273

Maryland Route 273 straddles northern reaches of Cecil County along a 16.74 mile course between U.S. 1 (Conowingo Road) and Delaware Route 273 at Newark. Part of the Mason and Dixon Scenic Byway, the highway travels across bucolic hills east from the town of Rising Sun to Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area and the Delaware line at Newark.

Roundabouts were added along MD 273 at Appleton Road by Spring 2018 and at Blue Ball Road by January 2019.1 An additional roundabout is proposed at MD 272 near Calvert.

MD 273 originally continued another 4.8 miles west of Harrisville via an overlap with U.S. 1 (Conowingo Road), and along Connelly and Ragan Roads to Oakwood and U.S. 222. The route was truncated by the 1950s or 1960s to U.S. 1. Connelly and Ragan Roads are no longer part of the state route system.
