Missouri Route 152 runs across northern Kansas City along a freeway from Interstate 435 and Highway N at Exit 24 to Interstate 435 at Exit 49. The easternmost 1.78 miles of Route 152, from the intersection with Shoal Creek Parkway to the exchange with I-35, is a controlled access commercial arterial. The limited access section of the state highway was completed in 2004.1
Route 152 replaced Barry Road from the west end at Highway N to Shoal Creek Parkway. The state highway was built directly over Barry Road east from Booth Avenue to the Liberty city line, where the arterial becomes Kansas Street. Kansas Street extends 0.6 miles east to Route 291 and 1.8 miles into Downtown Liberty.
Construction underway from May 2019 to August 2020 expanded the interchange joining Route 152 and I-35 at the Kansas City and Liberty city line. Costing $30 million, the project replaced the bridge for Route 152 over I-35 and reconfigured the diamond interchange to utilize a continuous flow intersection (CFI) for the ramps on the north side of the exchange. The dual bridges for Route 152 opened to traffic on August 28, 2019.2
$5.9 million in work underway by the first week of September converts the diamond interchange joining Route 152 with N Platte Purchase Drive into a DDI. The project was anticipated for completion by May 2022.3 The original exchange was constructed in 1990 as part of Route 152 west of U.S. 169. Just north of the freeway along N Platte Purchase Drive is a $40 million sports and school complex investment by the City of Kansas City.1 Work at the site got underway in June 2021.
