U.S. 13 Alternate - Woodside to Camden

U.S. 13 Alternate

U.S. 13 Alternate between Woodside and Camden was established by 1955, after Dupont Highway was built to the east. The route runs north alongside SR 15 (Upper King Road) from U.S. 13 (Dupont Highway) near the community of Canterbury along a rural two lane alignment north and west to Woodside. There SR 15 branches west alongside SR 10 Alternate (Main Street) to Dundee Road as U.S. 13 Alternate remains north to Derby Pond and the town of Camden.

Suburban development appears as U.S. 13 Alternate advances north to Voshells Mill Road. Transitioning to Main Street, the bannered route intersects SR 10 (Camden Wyoming Avenue), which runs west to Wyoming and east to Dover Air Force Base. The final half mile of U.S. 13 ALT lines Old Camden Road to Dupont Highway at Brecknock Park.

The Delaware State Highway Department petitioned the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHO) for the approval of U.S. 13 Alternate through Camden on November 10, 1952. The request for the 5.85 mile long route between Canterbury and U.S. 13 south of Dover was approved on December 8, 1952.
