U.S. 58 Business - Martinsville

U.S. 58 Business

A 9.96 mile long route, U.S. 58 Business (A.L. Philpott Highway) follows a winding course northeast from U.S. 58/220 (William F. Stone Highway) near Grassy Creek to U.S. 220 Business (Greensboro Road) near the Smith River. Combining with U.S. 220 Business along Memorial Boulevard, U.S. 58 Business heads northeast into the independent city of Martinsville. The two highways split at Starling Avenue, with SR 57 joining U.S. 58 Business east bypassing Downtown.

U.S. 58 Business/SR 57 follow E Church Street to Hilltop and the city line. SR 57 turns northeast to Callands while U.S. 58 Business resumes along A.L. Philpott Highway east back to U.S. 58 near Laurel Park.

U.S. 58 Business to Martinsville was created when U.S. 58 was relocated onto a freeway bypass to the south. The bypass east from U.S. 220 (Greensboro Road) to A.L. Philpott Highway opened to traffic by November 18, 1992. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) approved the establishment of U.S. 58 Business and realignment of U.S. 58 on April 18, 1993.
