U.S. 69

U.S. 69 travels 227 miles north from the Missouri state line near Lamoni to Emmons, Minnesota along the Iowa state line. The southern portion of the route parallels I-35 closely through Leon and Osceola. Branching northeast to an overlap with U.S. 65, U.S. 69 heads to Indianola and Des Moines. Through Des Moines, U.S. 69 follows SE 14th Street to the Iowa State Capitol grounds, where it splits into a couplet with 15th Street. North from there, U.S. 69 resumes along E 14th Street through Union Park and Highland Park to exit the city at Marquisville.
Staying west of Interstate 35, U.S. 69 travels through the suburban city of Ankeny en route to Huxley and Ames. Within Ames, U.S. 69 overlaps with Business Loop I-35 from U.S. 30 to 13th Street north of Downtown. The remainder of U.S. 69 in northern Iowa runs through rural cities and sparsely populated farm land.
