Future U.S. 74 Shelby Bypass - East

The Shelby Bypass is a partially built freeway traveling east from U.S. 74 at Swainsville to NC 150 (Cherryville Road) across the north side of Shelby. Inventoried as SR 9000, the bypass is the future realignment of U.S. 74. The eastern third of the limited access highway south from NC 150 to U.S. 74 east of Shelby is under construction to 2029.
A folded diamond interchange joins the Shelby Bypass with Washburn Switch Road (SR 1313) at Exit 197.

Washburn Switch Road heads 1.38 miles south from the Shelby Bypass to U.S. 74 (Dixon Boulevard) at Poplar Springs Church Road (SR 1151).

North from Exit 199, NC 226 (Polkville Road) heads NC 10 in to the town of Polkville and U.S. 221 at Marion.

The Shelby Bypass crosses the First Broad River between NC 226 (Polkville Road) and the Metcalf Road (SR 1850) overpass.

NC 18 (Fallston Road) heads northeast from Downtown Shelby to the diamond interchange at Exit 202.

NC 150 (Cherryville Road) branches northeast from U.S. 74 Business to cross the Shelby Bypass just beyond a roundabout with a realignment of NC 180 (N Post Road).
