Florida State Road 589 - South

A historical look at Florida State Road 589 along Suncoast Parkway and the Veterans Expressway. Signs pictured here have since been replaced and scenes changed due to construction.

Exit 8 consists of a loop ramp to Wilsky Boulevard from SR 589 south and a return loop ramp to northbound. The tree lined median here gave way for expansion of the Veterans Expressway. 07/03/15

The Veterans Expressway angles southeast from Wilsky Boulevard to the former Anderson Mainline Toll plaza. An inverted wye interchange tied into the toll road from parallel Anderson Road, giving the plaza its name. 07/03/15

Like the previous toll plaza, Sunpass traffic stayed to the left through a pair of converted toll booth lanes. 07/03/15

Southbound on-ramps joins SR 589 from Linebaugh Avenue east and an access road from Anderson Road. The next departure point for the toll road mainline is Exit 6A for Waters Avenue (Hillsborough Avenue). 07/03/15

Tolls for the second mainline plaza were $1.00 for passenger vehicles until June 24, 2012, when rates increased to $1.25. 07/03/15

Southbound mileage sign formerly posted at the Barry Road underpass. Travelers continued two miles south to Memorial Highway (CR 576) and five miles to I-275 via SR 60 east. 08/15/15

SR 589 (Veterans Expressway) crosses Channel G of Sweetwater Creek one mile north of SR 580 (Hillsborough Avenue). 08/15/15
