Interstate 95 Delaware – North
Welcome to Delaware guide sign posted at the state line when Michael Castle was Governor. This style of welcome sign was phased out during the Governor Carper administration. His panels displayed "Home of Tax Free Shopping" in place of the Governor placard. 1985
Leaving the original Newark toll plaza along the Delaware Turnpike, motorists along Interstate 95 north passed under this set of signs and the Welsh Tract Road overpass. Signs here were replaced by 2007.) June 2002
I-95 east of the Welsh Tract Road. Changes made here during the Newark toll plaza open road tolling project added two high speed lanes in each direction between the roadways. 12/19/01
Replaced mileage sign posted along I-95 north east of the SR 72 (Chapel Street) underpass. The new sign abbreviates Delaware Memorial Bridge to Del Mem Br. 10/12/04
Original guide signs for the Delaware Turnpike Service Area featured hexagonal signs, which matched signs posted at the various toll gates used at area interchanges. Remaining signs of this style were replaced by 2007 with standard rectangular overheads. 10/13/04
Ground level guide signs for SR 273 / Exit 3 on I-95 northbound were replaced in kind in 2023. 12/20/16
When the Delaware Turnpike Service Area was closed and rebuilt between September 8, 2009 and June 2010, it was modernized and rebranded the Delaware House. 10/13/04
Older guide signs posted at the Delaware Turnpike Service Area along I-95 north at Salem Church Road. The interchange sequence sign was replaced by 2007, with lighting fixtures removed. 03/23/04
The control city of SR 273 (Christiana Road) eastbound remained Dover even over ten years after the opening of SR 1 between I-95 and the capital city. SR 273 intersects SR 1 two miles to the east at Exit 162. 03/23/04
The overhead for Exit 3 B was damaged on December 23, 2020 by a dump truck with its bed in the air (Philips, 2020). The sign bridge was subsequently removed and a new overhead for just SR 273 east installed. 12/22/20
This reassurance marker for Interstate 95 north appeared just beyond Exit 3A. It was removed by 2016. 09/28/14
These signs for Exits 4A/B were replaced by 2007. Christiana was replaced with Dover for SR 1/7 south, while the supplemental sign for Christiana Hospital and Delaware Park was replaced and subsequently removed. 03/27/04
Signs on I-95 for SR 1 south omitted the control city of Dover, even with late 2007 sign replacements. 10/12/04
Sign changes made by 2007 spelled out Churchmans Crossing while adding a beaches trailblazer for Exit 4A. 06/17/12
One final sign change was made in 2013 when the loop ramp (Exit 4B) onto SR 7 north was removed and replaced with a new directional ramp departing from Exit 4A. This sign bridge was replaced with a new assembly by late 2013. 07/31/13
The area bound by I-95, SR 7, SR 2, and SR 273 is collectively known as Churchman's Crossing. Churchman's Crossing replaced Metroform, covered by the greenout here, as the name of the planned development for the area. 03/27/04
The interchange between Interstate 95 and SR 1 /7 underwent major construction and redesign through to Thanksgiving 2013. 06/17/12
Interstate 95 proceeded east 1.5 miles from SR 1/7 to SR 141. This set of signs was replaced by 2008, with the New Castle County Airport (ILG) overhead removed completely. 01/01/05
The new overhead assembly installed listing the distances to SR 141, I-295 and I-495. It was removed during construction to upgrade the interchange with SR 1. 06/10/12
An original Delaware Turnpike sign bridge posted at the Churchmans Road (SR 58) overpass was replaced by 2007. 03/27/04
Signs were carbon copied and reflected the forthcoming split of Interstate 295 north to the Delaware Memorial Bridge. 05/20/07
Interstate 95 northbound traverses Christiana Marsh between SR 58 and SR 141. Posted here was the one mile guide sign for Exits 5A/B (SR 141). 03/23/04
A sign replacement made by 2007 removed the lighting fixtures. This assembly was again replaced in 2008 with a new sign bridge. 05/19/07
Long term closure of Exit 5B for SR 141 north resulted in sign changes along I-95 north directing motorists to Newport to what was Exit 5A. 09/27/14
Continuing east across Christiana Marsh, four lanes of I-95 proceed toward the split with I-295. Interstate 295 forms an eastern bypass of Philadelphia, but only on maps as the route instead comprises a busy commuter traffic through suburban communities such as Cherry Hill, Mount Holly, and Vorhees 01/01/05
