Look, I'm a Yankees fan. But go ahead, nitpick.

A Cubs fan that doesn't hate the Brewers?

Teams I hate:

-St. Louis Cardinals
-Chicago White Sox
-New York Yankees
-Green Bay Packers
-Minnesota Vikings
-Detroit Red Wings
-Vancouver Canucks
-Boston everything (not so much the Bruins anymore)
-Dallas Cowboys
-Indianapolis Colts
-Miami Heat

A Cubs fan that doesn't hate the Brewers?  WTF?  Unless it just skipped your mind...
Yeah it skipped my mind...
Bob Brenly for Cubs manager!

It's a pretty safe bet the most hated teams are usually the most successful:

MLB: Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Giants (among some others)
NBA: Lakers, Celtics (hatred for these two probably eclipse all others, including the Miami LeBosh)
NHL: Red Wings
NFL: Everyone hates the Patriots
MLS: No one hates on teams they don't watch

Don't follow international sports too much, so I don't know of any "most hated" teams, although I'm sure Manchester United is up on that list somewhere.

It usually does work out that way.

That's because they haven't been excellent at kicking an oblong ball through a giant H for over 10 years.

Jerry Jones is annoying though...just shut up. He's the T.O./Chad Johnson of team owners (I know, that's a backwards-compatible way of looking at things).

What I hate most about the Viqueens (after living 37 years in Minnesota) was that every year they think they'll win it all, and get so smug about any small bit of success.

As a lifelong Vikings fan, I'll be the first to admit that we have some of the most bipolar fans in sports and it pisses me off to no end. Win the season opener, and they'll proclaim a Super Bowl win...lose in Week 2 and the same fans think the team's doomed. So in short, you're pretty much right. I try to be much more realistic.

"Our" success? Do you play shortstop or something?

Being a Yankee fan these days (at any time since about 1935...) is like being born on third base, thinking you hit the triple personally, and being smug about it.  No one, no one, more than 50 miles from New York (except upstate) has any excuse for rooting for the Yankees, and those in the New York area can root for the Mets.  Particularly when they're beating the Braves (which they were a few minutes ago.  But no matter - the Braves are still nine games back.)

I also had a a bit about being born on the bandwagon, but I can't work it into the metaphor.

RIP Dad 1924-2012.

I always thought one should root for the pro teams in one's geographical area, unless one had a personal reason to root for another team (the team from where you used to live, a team with a local player on it, etc.) Where I live was always Reds country until Channel 17 in Atlanta, WTBS, started getting on every cable system in the free world and started beaming Braves games to a nationwide audience. When I was in my mid to late 20s, I started noticing just how many teenagers and folks in their early 20s were Braves fans instead of Reds fans. I just couldn't comprehend or understand. I'd rather listen to a Reds game on the radio than watch a Braves game on TV ... well, at least until the '94 strike; after that I don't give a crap about MLB. I don't follow the Reds anymore.

The Premier

NFL: Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots
NCAA FB: Ohio State (Like their band though :-P)

I don't follow sports very often, so the list here is small.

Add Collingwood to that list. :spin:

So there is something a Bengals fan and a Steelers fan can agree on.

alas a far too light penalty imposed on them.  the Stalinist "let's rewrite the number of victories the school had" just strikes me as odd, and going forward they still have a football program.

significantly less major violations (payment of minimal stipends to students) led to a total "death penalty" ban on football at SMU in the late 80s.  let's get this straight - paying a fair wage is bad, but raping small children is fine?  all hail the football-industrial complex!

How about the Yankees?  They hold the record for being in the most World Series than any other team.  At one time Steinbrenner was firing managers like people changing undershorts.  How many times was ol Billy Martin at the helm?

Love em or hate em, I choose the latter as to me they seem like they have a lucky streak just like the Lakers in the NBA.

I used like to see ol George get mad when his Yanks lost a game, and still even thought he is either 6 feet under, in an urn, or above ground in a mosuleum I love to see them loose!  Hopefully turning in his grave when they do.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.
