I'm about to take a break from this forum, because I'm planning to take a flight back home to Chicago tomorrow (which I rarely do, as I prefer to drive). Anybody else have plans to travel this coming holiday weekend?
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

Yep. Tomorrow, I'm off to Boston to visit my grandpa.

I'm going out to my grandma's house in New Kent County, and while I'm out that way I'm going to clinch VA 155.

Olive Garden must be stopped.  I must stop them.

Don't @ me. Seriously.

My wife and I will do our Thanksgiving marathon to visit both sets of parents in Louisiana. Alexandria, then Winnfield, then Shreveport. Glad I can leave Dallas at noon tomorrow because any later will be horrendous

Also heading to Boston tomorrow. I am really looking forward to the NYC-Boston drive on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. :-P

Once again this year, I don't have to travel very far.  Only going from Wakefield MA to Andover MA to have dinner with my brother, his wife, and her family.  And Thanksgiving is probably the only day of the year where it's faster to go up Route 28 instead of taking I-93 (yes, I learned that lesson the hard way once about eight years ago).

All over western NY. I'm even spending toll money. Clinching PA's Interstate system (376 left) and picking up the Buffalo I-90 section, as well as a bunch of long state highways that way.

I've been down that road (ha!). Taconic to 90 is probably the fastest, sad to say.

Same with me. I'm heading to my aunt's house two towns over in Hudson, New Hampshire. Not going on any freeways (unless we go through Nashua and take US-3 or the D.W. Highway and the Circumferential Highway across the river into Hudson, or go through Nashua on the way back.) But I will be going on MA-113 (Pleasant/Arlington St.) in Dracut to get to Hudson, but only for about a mile or two. And I know I-93 holiday backups well, I live fairly close to it (MA Exit 46, a town over and about 7 minutes or so away) and I am almost ALWAYS on the opposite direction of the traffic. I have been on 93 SB before cruising at the speed limit and seeing NB bumper-to-bumper. I have also gone NB in the morning (mainly to my great-grandmother's when I was with her one week last year, my grandmother drove me up 93 NB at 6:30 and I saw SB backed up B-to-B!) Typical, everyone works in/just by Boston for some reason and just about nobody in MA and extreme southern NH works in Manchester.

Damn, I didn't even think about what sort of traffic is going to exist tomorrow. Oh well, it's better than being stuck at home, I guess.

Right now, our route involves taking 9W -> over the Tappan Zee (stopping in Tarrytown to take some photos of the bridge) -> Saw Mill -> 684 -> 84 east. I guess I'll have to keep the delays in mind and possibly change course.

I-84 traffic can get very nasty between Danbury and Waterbury. Merritt Parkway is my usual route, though I usually bail out at Route 8 in hopes of a bit more of a zen experience.

Taconic up to I-90 is an hour longer under normal circumstances...

Merritt, I-95, and I-84 will all negate that hour, or at least eat a significant amount into it, plus all the hassle of dealing with traffic. Unless you want to waste your time on the scenic route, just go the northern route.

Well I-95 is definitely out of the question any way you slice it. And surely, the northern route is the scenic route?? (Unless you dig the Merritt's bridges, I suppose. But the trip will largely be in darkness.)

I'm not opposed to adding time to the trip if it's quality time. And lately, bad Connecticut drivers have been irking me much more than other kinds of bad drivers.

I'm travelling from the kitchen to the dining table. Maybe I can clinch a new route somehow along the way...

I am not getting a Thanksgiving this year. My mom is going to Kansas City, and I can't go with her because I have to work. My girlfriend has to work during the evening, so I can't have dinner with her, either.

Fuck the service industry.

I'm flying up to Idaho tomorrow, spending Thanksgiving, and then driving up to Montana to see the town I'm moving to in January. I'm only flying from here to Boise this time because I have to make two more trips in December from Arizona to Montana/Idaho, one with my car and one with U-Haul.

That is, you are having Thanksgiving at your house, right? Oh, just take I-49K from I-K to I-DT. It's only 1/4 mile.

In all seriousness, that IS awesome! For Christmas Eve I have it in my very house, for Christmas Day we all head up to my cousin's house 1 town and 1 exit away on I-93 (exit 45). I have to go through another city, because the town of Dracut REFUSES to build a bridge to River Road in Andover. I will be sure to film that (I-93) for all of you guys!

:( That sucks for you. Maybe make up for it when all of you guys are off.

Cool. But how are you going to get the car to Boise, or will you just rent a car for a few days?

I may get out and about on Friday, since I have the day off and my wife will be fighting the retail masses, but it's doubtful I'll explore any new territory unless I start wandering along some 3- and 4-digit Kentucky state routes that I haven't driven before, or some southwestern Virginia 600-series secondary route.

Hopefully you won't hit up traffic that is trying to GET to those retail masses. But most people will be going there at midnight, so plan smart and go around 9 or 10 am.

Drove home to Rochester yesterday.  Have a bit of roadgeeking on Saturday in the area.  Head back Sunday; hopefully I'll be able to clinch I-781 (the pavement markings are there, so there's hope!).

I live in a rural area; a county of 7,000 people with a county seat of 1,000. If I do get out and about, I plan to select a route that takes me nowhere any busy arterial highways that would be jammed with shoppers heading out to stand in line for hours to buy one of the three in-stock advertised laptops at Walmart.

My parents are coming to my place tomorrow (not staying over; they live about 20 minutes away). My brother isn't coming because he's flying out west somewhere. More food for the rest of us!

I hear on Twitter that I-95 in Northern Virginia is a big mess, just like every year. Why they consider it "news" is something I've never quite followed. "News" would be if traffic were moving at the speed limit.

We'll be making the long trek to Bel Aire to visit my parents tomorrow.  It's more than 7 miles each way, and the boys will be taking their nap before we leave, so we'll be cutting it really close with holiday traffic.

Hit the road at 3:45 pm yesterday to Fort Myers. Got in around 130 am local time. Four different stretches of I-75 in Florida are being widened, the most significant from I-275 southward, slated to run into 2015.

My understanding is that it will not be possible to clinch I-781 without entering Fort Drum. Or did they decide to add a u-turn before the gate?

For thanksgiving itself, I'll be with family in Southwestern CT, so still local. Then spending the rest of the weekend driving in circles, which I haven't done enough of this year.
If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.
