TN, as I understand it:

and waterrrrrrr!

I'm glad Minnesota never wasted their time and money with that sort of shit putting the governors' names on state line markers. Our state line markers aren't really conducive to it anyway.

The Virginia welcome sign "CtrlAltDel" posted is obsolete. The new style is this:

There's one one the Dulles Access Road, as you may know. Presumably it's there to greet out-of-state and international visitors, but I always wondered what about people who fly from say Norfolk/Newport News to IAD, an intra-state flight (not that any necessarily exist).

It's for marketing reasons due to the airport being named "Washington Dulles International Airport." The Commonwealth thought people might not know the airport is in Virginia. Of course, under that logic they should post those same signs at the exits from Reagan too.

The sign in the Rosslyn Metro station was replaced with the new type, BTW.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"
—Kolzig, to the same reporter a few seconds later.

I honestly thought that said "Virginia is For Losers" at first.  :-D

BTW, yes there are ORF (Norfolk)-IAD flights.  Navy put me on a few over the years, enroute to other destinations.

Every TDY I've taken I just chose to take the mileage rate (although if you're connecting to Dulles from, say, San Diego or Seattle, then it's a different story).

I've always wanted to be able to bill for train tickets but then I saw how infrequently DC/ALX to Norfolk/NPN, and how those stations are  in the middle of nowhere down there.

Out of these, the BC looks the best to me. All were taken on the Trans Canada. Best one in Canada is Nova Scotia though I think:

I was traveling overseas, so I didn't get the opportunity to take the mileage rate.

Are/were you active duty?

NPN = Newport News isn't close to much, but the newer (opened December 2012) Norfolk (NFK) station is right on the edge of downtown.

And they had the "wisdom" to run right the light rail up to the naval station...

Not only is NPN not close to much, it's just a really bad location. It's typical of the "find a classification yard on the edge of town" approach that many southern Amtrak stations suffers from. Great if you have a car waiting for you, but not much else.

Quote from: roadman65 on December 08, 2015, 05:59:44 AMwhat I like is how Illinois does not use their governor, but the people of the state to sort of sign it.

That's what happens when your governor (Blagojevich) gets removed from office and the likelihood is high that successors will also. I remember seeing photos of signs at the toll plazas bearing his name were removed.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Buck87 -- where is that second overhead sign you posted located? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that's the Harsha Bridge (US 68) between Mason County, Ky. and Aberdeen, Ohio. Am I right?

That is correct

(I pulled those pics off google image search, and went back and looked at the page that one came from to confirm your hunch)
